I just read Action Comics Annual # 3 the tie-in to Armageddon 2001.

The story starts with Waverider looking into Superman's potential futures and he stubles in a future that Superman becames the president of the US. Seeing Superman dealing with politics and things he usually stays out of is great. Especially when he encourages other heroes to help him and become more concerned with the worlds problems.

And then something happens and he also gets a Lantern ring.

Spoilers obviously: Guy Gardner attacks him because Superman wants to reduce the size of the world's armies and Gardner finds it "traitorous". The battle ends in a contest of wills,Superman emerges victorious and he "wills" the ring into his finger. After he finds out how powerful the ring is he gives it to Hal because he is afraid of the power he is acquiring.

It is a nice story and seeing Superman becoming a world leader that DOESN'T turn into a dictator is even better.

I never realized I needed a "President Superman" story in my life until now.

This story will definitely give you that.
Also Morrison wrote an issue(AC # 9) with Earth-23's President Superman. Unfortunately though it is focused on another Superman and it doesn't focus on Pres.Supes' presidental duties or life etc.
