Either MoS tanks in which case they will probably blame it on Superman being box office poison. "We tried everything to jazz up Superman into a darker, more modern, morally ambiguous Man of Steel, but it didn't work ..." Or it is a success and then what ?
It's obvious the makers didn't have faith in Superman as a property and struggled to make this messy, muddled film under a climate of fear.
What happens to the new DC universe if MoS tanks ? Will they try even harder to darkify and betterify future films like Justice League, Wonder Woman etc ? Or will they have to accept that Marvel at least has a working formula and that you can actually make a film embracing a potentially utterly laughable character like Thor, warts and all, as long as you do it with conviction ?
Man of Steel tried to be anything but a Superman film and it had no conviction, no sense of awe and wonder that in my opinion a Superman film should at least try to evoke. Instead we got a muddled flick, overburdened by drama and unnecessary moral ambiguity.
So where does DC/Warner go from here ?
