Is he coming back or is he lost in the negative universe with Mr. Majestic with no chance of appearing--again--in the N52?
Superman
Character » Superman appears in 18939 issues.
Sent to Earth as an infant from the dying planet Krypton, Kal-El was adopted by the loving Kent family and raised in America's heartland as Clark Kent. Using his immense solar-fueled powers, he became Superman to defend mankind against all manner of threats while championing truth, justice, and the American way!
The heck happened to Helspont?
IDK but I really want to see him back.
lost in the negative universe with Mr. Terrific
Terrific is on Earth 2
Well Lobdell was the one who made plans to use him in the Superman title. He once said he planned to have Superman go up against 3 of the biggest, baddest villains in the New 52 DCU, two of which were already present. It's possible and was speculated that Lobdell planned to have Superman fight Helspont, Darkseid and another big bad guy, possibly H'El. Without his use of Helspont, the character has probably fallen through the cracks of the New 52 DCU to be utilised by another writer at a later date.
@allstarsuperman: I meant Majestic...my bad.
@lvenger: you're always saying that Pak doesn't use big name villains, how would you feel if Pak took on Helspont?
@lvenger: Helsont was in Superman 7 and 8, pre-lobdell, so DC itself must have been planning something.
I enjoyed what Scott Lobdell did with that character and where he was going with it, but I totally forgot about him now I'm saddened that we will never know what he wanted to do with him
@saint_wildcard: Jurgens wrote him, not Lobdell, but it seems like it was Lobdell's direction from the info above.

Yes,the original concept for Trinity War revolved around Helspont as the big bad, that's who Pandora warned against in Flashpoint.

But he'd be carrying on a Lobdell idea and we can all see how mediocre the Doomed storyline is because of it. Pak needs to make his own ideas and stories like he did at Marvel if he wants to up his Superman writing.

Yeah and the Daemonites have been mentioned in Justice League United lately.

Wait is that true? I never heard of this before.
@lvenger: Yup,it was supposed to be a Daemonite invasion.

Do you happen to have a source for this? I'd be interested in seeing where you heard it from.

I read it on CBR,there was link to the source there, little more than 18 months ago,I'll try to find it though.

I've found some sources online, including Comic Addicts, which mention a Daemonite invasion being the original event for Trinity War. Thanks for the tip off though.
@lvenger: No prob.
I have no clue but hopefully he comes back in a big an interesting way. I mean he kinda has to the way he left things in that annual.
@entropy_aegis: what happened to that idea? I mean, Helspont was the only good thing about the Perez-Jurgens-Lobdell run, his backhand is probably the most impressive feat of the N52.
@lvenger: I mean creating a new story involving Helspont post-Doom.
@superguy1591: Shelved,WS stuff just wasn't working out as they hoped.
Helspont was waiting for better days, that never came.
But who knows what the future will bring...
I personaly liked what Lobdell did with Helspont, he hinted on many things that maked him one hell of an opportunity has a villan.
He seemed to know a lot about kriptonians and he called Superman his kin. At the time most people said that he was refering to the fact that once upon a time he also was a hero for the demonite empire. But I always believed that maybe demonites and kriptonians might have shared a common origin or in some point in time the two species crossed, and maybe even created hybrids.
But now I doubt we'll ever know.
@entropy_aegis: that sucks, Helspont was working just fine for us in the Superman mythos.

Really? I guess he was visually interesting ,but the stories were a snooze fest, though if it meant less dependence on Darkseid as the big evil in Superman stories then I'm all for it.
@entropy_aegis: He backhanded Supes to the moon effortlessly and gave him a concussion. Even Dakrseid never did that.
He he also had spells and probes that were effective against Superman and he left Superman genuinely concerned and afraid of his returned. The writers that wrote him were the problem, not Helspont as a character. If Lobdell and his feat writing was capable of making me excited for anything, I think that thing should stay in continuity.
Plus, He's the only thing worth keeping from those three. Even Jonathan Carroll is retcon out of the N52 it looks like.
@lvenger: can you send me said links? I need to read this
Still awaiting his return.
He was a beast, I'd like to see him kicking ass again.
I don't think Helspont will be coming back any time soon. Partially because the Wildstorm universe is now being kept separate from the DCU (aside from Midnighter and Apollo) and because of what happened to Helspont in Red Hood and The Outlaws #40.
@lvenger: That weapon must have been powerful to completely obliterate him like that.
@heirtothekingdom: It must have for sure, that cannon would probably vaporise Superman level beings too. Wonder what it would do to Darkseid.
@lvenger: They should keep it for another invasion he has.
@heirtothekingdom: I know, where's that cannon now? Why don't the heroes bust that out when Darkseid or the Anti Monitor invades?
He showed up to fuck Supes up for like 2 issues and then the plotline never got resolved. I think Grifter and friends ended up beating him iirc.
Edit: I stand corrected on how he was beaten. That was sad.
One of the worst blue balls of the N52 era...
@heirtothekingdom: I know, where's that cannon now? Why don't the heroes bust that out when Darkseid or the Anti Monitor invades?
In Batman's closet with all the other PIS items he has to defeat character he has no right even go up against let alone defeat.

Oh right Batman's plot device closet. Obviously it would belong in there.

Right there next to x amount of characters miraculous computer hacking skills to move a plot along.

I forgot about this. Had he stayed, he would've been a cool addition to Superman's rogue gallery.
