I don't think Superman is in the present day. Even though it is obviously after Action Comics but I think it's before Justice League. I could be so wrong though.

I have heard nothing nor seen any indication that would suggest "Superman" is in the past.

Superman is current day, Action Comics is in the past, and Justice League is also in the past but somewhere in between. We know Justice League is in the past because Hal is Green Lantern (and relatively new in that role) before he is kicked out and working with Sinestro which is happening in Current day. So timeline goes: Action-a couple years later Justice League-Further down the road Superman. And they are all in a 5 year span. After a couple of arcs of Action & Justice League they will all be in the same present day timeline, but yes they are all in the same Universe.

How will the separate series work then?

All the books will be meeting up to present day (and it seems like the 7th issue of each series will do it). I'm pretty sure that both Superman and Action Comics will continue to tell stories independently from one another once they are back within the same time frame. In the 90's all four Superman titles would be telling the same story in order of their release. It was an interesting way to go about things and certainly gave the Superman mythos a clear continuity. But you also had four different creative teams trying to tell the same story, so sometimes the characterizations were pretty inconsistent and things could get repetitive as one title still felt the need to recap whatever happened in the last. Nowadays, the separate Superman titles tell different stories from one another so each creative team gets the chance to tell the stories they want to tell without having to worry about the other quite so much. It'll be the same man, within the same time frame but different adventures. The same thing goes for JLA. Just take it as seeing what Superman does when he's hanging out with his friends.

Very well said!!! And from time to time we may see Superman & Action crossover, just a couple of years ago we had one continuous story over 4 titles (Action, Superman, Supergirl, and New Krypton) all forming one big story arc, I can see them doing that again for a big arc if necessary otherwise I think it'll be like the current Batman titles, each book telling a story that happens in the same time frame as the other books, but is contained within that title.

No the current "present-time" in DC is less than 5 years after the emergence of Superheroes, so at the MOST Action Comics occurs 5 years before Superman. The superhero is still a relatively new concept in the New 52 DCU, thats why they are still hunted as vigilantes and outlawed.

@MetropolisKid41: Justice League is 5 years in past from the present time and Action Comics comes before that so it's probably a little more than 5 years before Superman.
