Orion came off like a rowdy viking like Thor does.....this was off-putting. Orion was great before as a mostly-silent ball of rage. I don't see why nearly every character has had to undergo a major personality change in the new 52.
Superman
Character » Superman appears in 18941 issues.
Sent to Earth as an infant from the dying planet Krypton, Kal-El was adopted by the loving Kent family and raised in America's heartland as Clark Kent. Using his immense solar-fueled powers, he became Superman to defend mankind against all manner of threats while championing truth, justice, and the American way!
Superman #20 - Orion = Thor?
@laserlambert: Mind = blown
@superdork: Thor-Ryan
I like his character in new 52, quirky wise cracker its pretty funny. I also like his character pre-52 more or less the exact opposite with a more serious composed attitude.
Either way I really enjoyed the fight with him and Superman. Next time wonder woman won't be there to help Supes out ;)
He's immortal, relatively anyway,those who consider themselves gods tend to get cocky.
Ah come on. That's a bit harsh.

I think the creative types see this as a chance to put their spin on these iconic characters so they can leave their mark. As they say, "Just because you can doesn't mean that you should."
@press_oblivion: Agreed. While it could bring in new fans, and it's not like I'd abandon anything for a change like that, but it still feels like they're just trading people who are already fans for potential new ones. I mean...would they re-introduce Plastic Man and make him super serious? Keep core personality traits the same (IMO).
Though they're not really the same, you might want to consider that both were created by the legendary Jack Kirby
@powerwomanSilly me, his personality stayed exactly the same
@sinestro_gl That wouldn't be surprising if Orion had always had this personality (though a little sad on JK's part it he made such similar characters, lol) but Kirby's original Orion didn't behave this way.
@80sbaby: Oh yeah, I didn't know that! Do DC & Marvels have doppelgangers for every character? I feel like I'm seeing more and more similarities.

I don't think its copying, in this case.
IIRC, Jack Kirby created the Fourth world to explain what happened to the Old Gods, like Zeus/Odin (Highfather), Thor/Ares (Orion), Mercury/Hermes (Lightray), etc. So they are, literally, New Gods.
But both companies have A LOT of character "homages" to each other. They even seem to trade stories from time to time (look at the parallels between the last few years of Batman stories and Captain America, for instance.)
@80sbaby: It's fascinating, thanks :)
yeah sorry about the use of doppelganger, I couldn't think of another word at the moment. Homage works, thanks :)
I don't know if DC ever had a stand out patriot character but the there's Sentry and now Warrior Woman, Moon Knight just to drop a few. . . . just interesting to see the parallels.
I'll feed into the off-topic of my thread, lol.
Weren't Storm & a few other X-men originally designed to be DC characters (4th world, I think) but weren't used so their creator (Kirby?) took them to Marvel?
Fun fact (for those who didn't know) Deadpool is basically a parody of Deathstroke ( Wade Wilson - Slade Wilson, etc )

Research on both Squadron Supreme for Marvel and Champions of Angor for DC... You'll e delighted. :D
I always thought that Jonah Hex was based off of Wolverine (don't know who came first), they have similar characteristics. If you take away Wolverine's claws and healing powers him and Jonah Hex are like the same dude. With the way they talk and act....it's eerily similar.
Wolverine was supposed to be a copy of Legion of Superheroes' Timberwolf. But he evolved into something else and during the late 90's, it was Timberwolf who copied some aspects of Wolverine. Kinda fascinating.
Orion in the 52 doesn't seem like Thor but then again he doesn't seem very godly to me at all.
No one written by Lobdell seems to appear as they should be ;)

Yeah that's something i've been coming to realize for the past few months myself.
@dernman: It's so apparent with how he treats Superman. In one issue, you can see minor remnants of Pre-52 while in most other issues, he's this arrogant brute.
Makes me ever more disappointed that Diggle left Action Comics.
@deranged_midget: yeah that one issue of Diggles nailed it more than Lobdell's entire run.
@dernman: As well as the rest of Dan Jurgens and George Perez's :P
@deranged_midget: indeed.
