Have you seen the new promo for the ninth season of Smallville?  Things look to be getting a bit crazy.  Check it out.  ( Entertainment Weekly had the exclusive for this.  Let's hope this youtube version doesn't get pulled.)  What do you think?

What do you think of his look?  Are you planning on watching this season?

Metallo is the main villain? Together with Zod? And Clark dons the S symbol?

I have only one thing to say...

Sweet!

This looks BADASS. They seem (from the promo) to be more focused on action this season and less drama. Sure a mixture of both is always good but we all know we've been waiting for some consistent action on Smallville. Cant wait. (who's the chick with the sword?)

I still don't get it it. Does everyone know Clark is a super or not and how did he manage to avoid that and if he's not dressed as the ultra-conservative version of Clark Kent how the heck is no one going to recognize him since he doesn't wear a mask?
Sorry I cannot get behind Smallville. It spent season after season bastardizing the Superman mythos by introducing character after character that had no business being in small-town Kansas. Clark has had an entire career of hero-work before even getting the red and blue costume; Maxima, Brainiac, Zod, Cyborg, Aquaman (still lame), Black Canary, Flash (without the name), Martian Manhunter, Doomsday - what the heck?
NOW they want to put him in the "new standard" for bad assness (a long black coat and black clothes ala lame LARPing Vampires from the 90s and the ultra-slick Matrix) and introduce the "costume" that way?
This has become the epitome of new pop-culture dreck and should be burned. Everyone involved (writers, producers, directors and actors) should be executed for systematically destroying a cultural icon that has been in the hearts of young boys since his introduction in 1932 and selling out to whats considered "cool" by today's jaded standards.
WAY TO GO CORPORATE AMERICAN GREED!!

I think I can pin down my problem with Smallville last season and this promo, You can't make Superman dark you can't have Clark even remotely consider him giving up what it is to be human if the Smallville Producers think this is the best take on the character, to make "dark" and  then they really have no grasp on the character in the first place.

#18 Posted by RedK (2518 posts) - 3 years, 9 months ago - Show Bio

words cant describe how awesome that was

#19 Posted by LoganRogue24 (1076 posts) - 3 years, 9 months ago - Show Bio

if only they would bring Kara back season 9 would be perfect. but damn season 9 looks like it might suceed were season 8 failed.

Superman's gone dark in the comics before. I could be wrong but I think its easy to see what the play is here. He turns dark, comes close to the edge without actually going over, and eventually comes back to embrace his human side. But that's just my take.

I meant in general story telling like last season having "Jimmy Olsen" take pills then kill only it was the real Jimmy's brother. Or Lex being killed by Green Arrow.
#23 Posted by Gambler (80655 posts) - 3 years, 9 months ago - Show Bio
@johnny spam: I see what you're saying. I actually had no problem with Jimmy getting strung out or Ollie killing Lex. The brother thing was a little corny yet predictable. Still not enough for me to give up on the show. Not yet anyway.

I have been waiting so long for the new season.

#26 Posted by EnSabahNurX (2253 posts) - 3 years, 9 months ago - Show Bio
@johnny spam: Well he is only abandoning what makes him human as a way to protect them and it's only for a little while before he realizes he can't only be superman. The show just wants to give clark a journey of self discovery as both clark and Kal-El in order to find a balance.

#41 Posted by GERALD (157 posts) - 3 years, 9 months ago - Show Bio

Stopped watching by the end of the second season....thought about returning to the show, then I found out what happens to Clark's dad....got tired of their stupid interpretation of the series and havent seen it since.

Thank god.

What I've never understood is the urge people have to gripe about how something differs from the comic.  I try to go into any comic book movie, tv show, or cartoon with the idea that its simply an elseworlds story.  If you just view it from that perspective then you might be able to just relax and enjoy the show for its merits.

#43 Posted by Starrk (549 posts) - 3 years, 9 months ago - Show Bio

This looks kinda badass

Never been big on smallville but i'll check this season out.

#44 Posted by MrCipher (272 posts) - 3 years, 9 months ago - Show Bio
@The Black Hood:

The issue is not that it cannot be viewed as an Elseworlds concept, the issue is that it is not being offered as an Elseworlds concept; Instead it is being offered as canon and the newest generations that watch that "re-imagining" take it for "real" or the "original idea" not even realizing that a huge amount of information exists that contradicts what is being offered. Along the same lines as when a band does a cover of a song but does not publicize that it is in fact a cover.
It is a huge diservice to the original mythology to "re-imagine" something like Superman, Battlestar Galactica or Flash Gordon; or anything else for that matter in the name of "updating the idea" for the next generation when it's just an issue of mistrust by greedy producers/writers etc. who believe that they can make something "better" by changing nearly everything but ride on the original name.
#45 Posted by The Traveler (15 posts) - 3 years, 9 months ago - Show Bio

I haven't watched very many shows, but I'll tune in and see some more this year.

FYI, I noticed today that BestBuy had some previous seasons, I think 1-7, on sale for $20, normally priced at like $46. They were the regular DVD collection, but it's a nice price drop for anyone looking to catch up on old seasons. Season 8 looks to come out this Tuesday according to the advertisement inside this week's Bagirl #1.

Doesn't look TOO bad. Looks better than the last season anyways.

#49 Posted by FallenX (66 posts) - 3 years, 9 months ago - Show Bio

The trailer looks awsome and bad@ss.
I was waiting for Clark to wear the costume and i like the idea of the black long coat and blue "S" symbol on it.I'm not that excited about Zod.Brian Austin Green plays Metallo!?Well that's an interesting idea and fits for the role perfectly. It's also good to see a little bit more Clark/Lois romance.I heard that Allison Mack will leave the show after Season 9 comes to end. Overall I think that this season will be one of the best season's so far.Lookin' forward to it :)
