It's where Clark grew up with Pa, Ma and what made him the person he is today.

The S stood for Superman originally and later the kryptonian symbol of house of El. In MoS it means hope.

It meant hope before MoS. And no it shouldn't stand for Smallville.

    Short answer: No.

Long Answer: Smallville isn't even that important to Clark. The Kent's were, in most versions Clark was really seclusive because of his powers and nature. And the "S" standing for Smallville doesn't even make sense. So should Batman wore a "G" who has stronger connections to Gotham than Superman with Smallville.
Plus why trade the incredibly good ideas that are the "S" standing for Hope and being the symbol of El.

I always liked the one where it meant his family name and his family name meant hope.

I was thinking of the show Smallville and this story popped up in my head.

Ma was making the Superman costume for Clark and she was like if you ever feel alone, look at the S in the suit and hopefully you I'll be reminded of your home.

You're joking right? S for smallville... Like the Smallvilleman. Just saying or writing it feels ridiculous.

In fact has it's been shown in more recent ocasions, Man of Steel being one of them, the S isn't a S. It's the kriptonian symbol for hope.

The people of Earth looked at it saw an S and with all those powers, they saw a Superman.

So, lets leave it at that. Superman now and forever.

Plus why trade the incredibly good ideas that are the "S" standing for Hope and being the symbol of El.

Either of you think it was incredibly stupid how in Byrne's Man of Steel origin its just a random symbol Pa and Clark drew? IIRC, I haven't read it in a while.

Yeah, it was weird at least(although it was created by Pa and Clark). I didn't like many thinks from Byrne's run though so I didn't know if it was just me. But a symbol like that deserves more depth than the "Look what I scribble, NOW WEAR IT and don't forget to tell the world that your father made it for you".

I hated that but thankfully Waid changed it to be great.
