Solid 7. It's enjoyable but there are flaws. Superman kills. No kneel before zod line. Amy Adams didnt look like Lois. Lois somehow had detective skils as tracked down superman. She knows his identity so there can't be a storyline of her liking superman but not Clark. Lois was too nice of a person. Superman wasn't that heroic. Tone was too dark and gloomy, even the dark knight rises had more comedy. List goes on but I wasn't a bad movie

In terms of costume... 2. Sorry, but the books give you what you need and while you could have messed up worse like say, X-Men... all you had to do is keep the classic look and you'd be good, but you didn't and it doesn't really work.

In terms of editing... 3. I've seen worse, but I've gone over a number of the editing problems before without saying they're editing problems.

Directing... 5. It's mediocre. Nothing stand out. Nothing bad.

Story... 3. It sucked. It's pretty easy to do Superman right... that they couldn't tell a coherent superman story, even with all the extra crap it's below average.

Casting... 6 or 7 for the most part the casting was decent to slightly above average. Amy Adams is about the only complaint I have, not because she's bad or good, but because there wasn't really anything there and she didn't really give the Lois vibe.

Special Effects... 5. Some are good, others are sloppy and bad so it mostly evens out.

Character Portrayal... wrong wrong wrong wrong wroooooooong on just about every account. 3. I've seen worse, but how do you mess up Superman... I guess the same way you mess up Batman... but whatever...

Overall... I gotta give it about a 4... A low 4. (i checked and the scores do average to that, but I wasn't averaging lol)

I would've gave it a 8.5 but since there was no option for that I went with 8. I thought it was a great movie but it didn't quite deserve a nine in my opinion.

I gave it a 9, since it made me feel like a kid Again :P.

Superman Returns was just dissapointing, it was closer to a soap opera...

I gave it a 9 - it was ALMOST a 10, but there was just a small handful of things I felt weren't quite right. I'm one of the people the feel that the romance was rushed/forced, not massively and it didn't detract from my overall enjoyment, but it did stick out as odd. It just felt like there was no grounding for them have any link like that within the context of the film and their interactions. I also felt he was under-powered (could just be though it's because he was only realising the extent of his powers, but if so, give me some explanation please!) and I want to know why there was a suit on the ship, that fit him perfectly and was coloured that way. I mean I can buy the scout ship was flown by Kara, so naturally had an inclination to the house of El, but none of the males are from the house of El and it's clearly designed for a male. Plus every other time in the film and prequel you see them in their suits, they're black - why is this one so colourful by comparison? Some weird physics logic with regard to Lois not getting sucked into the Phantom Zone (everything else, even stuff on the ground was getting sucked in, but she falls away from it?), and I would have liked it if we had the chance to see him as Clark a bit more - he still seemed too "cool" at the end - but this is something I'm hoping will be shown in the sequel - so I guess it's not a massive deal.

I've seen it 4 times, so after all that, those are the things that bugged me enough to decide it's not a perfect movie, however it is my favourite film of all time so far, and I think in the grand scheme of things, it's a better film overall than the original Donner movies (**ducks head before everyone else kills him**).

Seen it 6 times. I voted for 9 on the Poll but 8.75 feels more accurate.

Pretty funny reading some of the comments though. Like Lois' hair being red instead of brunette and Superman's costume lol (underwear on the outside is outdated, get over it)

Gave 8. There were good parts and there were not so good parts.

At last, Superman wasn’t typical one-sided do-gooder with next to no character development. Pretty much best portrayal of his human side on big screen for me.

Same can be said for Zod; at last he actually looks like general and not some generic villain.

Lois actually deserves her status as one of the best journalists.

    On bad side:

    1. Not very developed Kryptonian history. How thousands of scout and colonial ships didn’t produce at least several successful colonies? What about daxamites?

    2. Too many symbolic Savior references.

    3. In final fight Zod and Supes, no matter how much they punched each other, were seemingly unharmed. That is a bit letdown for a fight to death.

    4. What about secret identity? World pretty much knows that Superman is Clark Kent. Fight in Smallville, Superman told himself that he grow up in Kansas, Lois called Clark in presence of police officers.

For me MOS is best film of the year.

@lilben42: That's pretty much the opposite of what happened to me. The first time around I thought it was a 9, second time I wasn't as memorized by the action and thought it was more like a 7.

I voted 7, but I think the 7-9 range is defensible depending on what you were looking for out of the film. I down-rated it a bit because it didn't feel like a Superman film to me in some of the ways that matter, but I still found it entertaining.

I hope everyone votes in this poll....it will be interesting to see the numbers.

I gave it a 6. Having Superman kill when there were other options makes the movie lose a few points.

Essentially, I wanted a different take on the character, a more optimistic, more inspiring, more cheerfull take.

Look at the difference in the following two costumes....there is a clear difference in tone:

    No Caption Provided

I don't care about the red underpants or anything like that....the biggest thing was the overall tone of the movie. I think it's a shame we didn't get something more inspiring/cheery. The world could certainly use it right now.

It'd give it a solid 9 for concept, but a 2 for execution. "Zack has a talent for exciting visuals, but must learn to show actual story elements and real characterisation rather than use shortcuts and voiceovers. David must understand that a list of ideas after a brainstorming session is not a fully formed script and that violence and drama do not equal characterisation. We hope their director's cut makes more sense, if not they will have to duplicate Catwoman scene for scene with Will Ferrell playing Catwoman as remedial."

I'd give it a 5, and that's me being really generous. If you love this movie so much that you hate hearing anything negative about it, then don't read this. I'll give the movie props for casting Henry Cavill. That was an amazing casting choice. I also felt Russell Crowe did a good job as Jor-El, as well as Antje Traue as Faora-Ul. Everyone else, however, was horribly miscast. Michael Shannon was a horrible Zod. You could've cast Jim Parsons as Zod, and it would've pretty much been the same. And don't get me started on Amy Adam's awful portrayal of Lois Lane.

The movie was horribly unbalanced. The first half was slow and pretentious, and the second half was a MESS. I felt like I was watching Transformers, and that's NEVER a good thing. It was glorified destruction porn. After a while, the nonstop action was nauseating. Some people may say, "Some people are too stupid to keep up with the fast action," but that's a load of BS. It's very easy to keep up with, but it's messy and, worst of all, boring.

    There, I said it.

I gave it a 7. It was a good movie but didn't feel like a Superman movie to me. It started off a little slow, then it was all out action and a few moments didn't seem in character for the MOS.

But I did enjoy the movie and would watch it again.

    1. Wasn't a Superman film, it was a surprisingly Spiderman (Johnathan dying to teach a lesson), unsurprisingly Batman (bleak, dreary, joyless tone), and Dragon Ball Z flick rolled into one without an pitiful speck of magic or weightlessness or charm. I also have zero interest seeing my life role model kill someone. The only thing I enjoined was the music.

7, maybe 8. Enjoyable movie, but had some serious pacing problems, and Pa Kent's death was so cheesy it made me laugh. Still better than the other Superman movies though (maybe not the first I can't really remember that one too well).
