I personally thought it was Awesome! And really don't want to see this "origin" retconned at all. I just finished my 17th run through of grants 18 issues lol kiddin just my third and once I understood how everything connects it's an awesome story but this initial arc was a real standout and those beautiful backups made it all the better.

Morrison did a good job bringing the Golden Age social crusader back into Superman's origin as a hero of the people again along with some nice sci fi elements. But it could have been improved. Certainly, issues 5-6 weren't my favourites.

Writing wise, this has to be read in the context of the rest of his run. Doing so will make you realize this deserves a place next to All-Star Superman itself.

The art, however, is certainly below expectations and ultimately was the sole reason I rated this a 4 instead of a 5 star "Masterpiece."

Morales was too inconsistant and he had so many fill-in artists.

This was the best arc of his entire run. I loved his run although the Art wasn't always good and there were too many fill ins the writing was never sub par. Even the Back Ups by Sholly Fisch. Overall this arc was amazing but it had it's problems.

When it was good, it was good, but a lot of the time it was just inconsistent or poor quality. For example I felt the whole 'Legion of Superheroes' arc could easily have been done away with.

The first 9 issues were enjoyable, everything after that was a mess though

4 stars it was good, but some of it felt off, and the backups weren't great or at least one of them wasn't.
