Am I the only one who thought that inner monologue was gonna go "My name is Clark Kent. I'm the Man of Steel. I'm Superman"?
Character » Superman appears in 18939 issues.

Less than excited. Geoff johns is okay at best IMO and I don't dig jrjr's art.
And yet those four pages are actually better than every single issue of this series released before since they actually read like (gasp!) Superman.
@pperspectiveandreality: Hey, an improvement is an improvement. Art is crap though, I'll concede that much.
@smashbrawler: Bring it on, GJ!
Art's considerably better than I thought it would be. Yay for 'super' low expectations.
I like the colouring makes it look a little cartoony in a good way.
As for Johns, just do what you do best Geoff!! Reinvigorate Superman!! Do it!!
@Saren : Lol so you must've dropped all dc books by now
Titano is a robot now? DROPPED.
Dropping it would imply you were buying Lobdell's run.... were you?
Really not impressed.
Art just barely acceptable (Kuder’s work superior to that IMO and I’m not even talking about Benes or Rocafort’), if I didn’t know that this is Jimmy Olsen, I wouldn’t be able to tell, is that teenage guy or boyish girl.
Plus authors of Doomed were talking that this would be first big fight between DD and Supes, yet there headlines of Death and Return of Superman on the walls of Daily Planet (?..); even better, when exactly New-52 Supes were wearing the classic costume ?

This is a preview of Superman 32 , Superman 31 which is a part of doomed hasn't come out yet.

I know, it’s just, Doomed event (as we were promised) wouldn’t be the New-52 interpretation of DOS, so as far I understand, we would get infected Superman = Superdoom, not his death and resurrection (yet Perry talking exactly about that). So, was the “death” of Superman in the hands of Doomsday or during some other big event, when its happened; if this is actually about Doomed, well, all Doomed spoilers are wrong; IDK, maybe this is just editorial mistake or I don’t know something…

Superman had die in the new 52 before. These pics aren't refering to Doomed. We don't know exactly how or when but Supes had die.
In Swamp Thing Superman goes to talk to him because he knows how it is to return from the dead. In Action Comics, multiple references are made to the day Superman died, Lois even called it "Doomsday". But we know for sure Superman has died once in N52.
The idea of Johns helming this is intriguing but enduring JRJR's art is quite the endurance test considering I once did go through his run on Amazing Spider-Man back then with Strazynski.
Superman had die in the new 52 before.
Yeah, I know that, but it would be nice to get some clarification, how, in which circumstances it happened. Before I thought that by death of Superman it was referred to that brief death in AC (story with 5th dimensional imps), but that death couldn’t make the headlines.

Photos on the wall look mighty DOS-inspired to me, through.
In any case, this is not really important. I hope that Superman book would improve and JJ would write good New-52 Superman.
I was really worried about Romita's art. Seeing this though I'm not as worried as I was. The first panel looks pretty cool, too. With Johns writing I'm hoping it'll still tie into JL somehow, seeing as he wont be a part of that team for the foreseeable future.

this.
Given that Romita's art actually looks pretty good here and I like Johns' previous Superman stuff, I'll be checking this out for sure.
aaaand this.
Much much much better than all the other stuff we have seen so far.
What? This is a bit premature. The art is nice and cartoony (it really reminds me of Adam Kubert's "Superman:last son" which was GOOD) but it is no way better than a Rocafort or an Ed Benes (...just when he is in shape like in the last issue of Superman). If you are talking about the writing you are probably right but it is still too early to judge.
I can definitely see his Kick Ass work in Jimmy Olsen's face.
He also reminds me of his Daredevil in the Man without Fear
I liked Romita's art in Remenders Cap,never saw the fuss TBH. His style is incredibly dynamic and fluid, with the right colorist he can very good.
Johns on the other hand,I know Supes fans are pleased I too enjoyed Up,Up and Away,Last Son and Bizarro World but Johns of that era and the Johns of today are 2 different people. His writing has really gone downhill for me and I cant help but feel that he was given this assignment only to boost Superman sales.
given this assignment only to boost Superman sales.
Yeah, that was my first thought too, maybe he wants to connect it to his JL work with all the Luthor stuff and the SM/WW.
I think Romita is going in to F.U mode to all the haters love the look of the art. My opinion. I had my doubts but this looks pretty good so far.
@bezza: HELLLLLLL NO! As long as Pak-Man is on AC, AC gets my money. I love Geoff, but Pak's the better Superman writer until proven otherwise.
Yep, its gonna take something special for me to drop AC too!! Being a Hulk fan I am obviously a huge Pak fan and he seems to really "get" Superman, unlike many writers...

I like JrJr's art, I just don't like the way he draws faces. Everything else he draws is actually pretty good.
This is looking way better than anything going on this poor excuse of an event called Doomed with the exception of Unchained. At least these two actually qualify as actual Superman stories that represent the character and his mythos far better than this current event is. Why am I not surprised that solo ongoings beat events in quality every time?
