There's a reason Kal-El from Krypton is called Superman. Due to his Kryptonian physiology and Earth's yellow sun, he can do more than the average man can. We know he's stronger, faster, tougher and even smarter than others. What most people might not really think about is Superman can do everything in a super way.

We can see, to the right, Superman as Clark Kent showing of some super dance moves. This makes total sense. With his speed and agility, there's no reason he couldn't have killer moves along with super rhythm. Even if he didn't know how to dance, he could easily observe and learn any moves at a fast speed. (This image of Clark dancing got burned into my memory when I came across it so I felt I had to share with everyone.)

Dancing is not the only other super thing Superman can do. What else is there?

I mentioned that Superman is smarter than others. He's not really portrayed as a 'bookworm' but it makes sense that his brain works at superspeed. He should be able to solve problems faster than others. Superman could see a situation from all angles and do the calculations in the blink of an eye. Looking at the image to the right, "20 times 16 times ten..." I'll assume the letterer or writer goofed on this one (do the math yourself). Perhaps Superman didn't bother to verbally explain all the steps since Lois was so stunned and couldn't follow along.

I do like the idea of Superman having a super mind. He shouldn't just be about using his super strength to solve problems. As you can imagine, that's not all of his super abilities.

    No Caption Provided
Did you know Superman has super hair? Again, why not? He's the Man of Steel and that means his entire body is super. I recall in an issue from long ago that Superman has to use his heat vision and a piece of Kryptonian metal to shave. He bounces the beams off the metal and onto his face to get rid of any stubble. That has to be a handy ability since those good quality razors get get a little pricey.

I'm sure I could sit here all day and list other depictions of Superman's super abilities. Do you agree that everything he does should be super? Can you list other uncommon super feats his been seen doing? What is the strangest or most interesting super ability Superman has?

Really? That's how he shaves? I didn't know that. I remember, reading where Superman has to use a typewriter, because his powers interfere with electronic things. E.g. Computers.

There was some recent (I think) issue where he was shaving with the help of some sort of metal pipe like G-Man said. But I got no clue where is that. I gave up searching (yeah, I did only for 3 minutes)

I would absolutely hate it if writers started portraying Superman with super-intelligence on top of everything else.

I have the hardest time enjoying Superman comics because he is so stupidly powerful that the writers spend half the time devising artificial ways to depower, incapacitate or otherwise remove him from circulation altogether.

I buy Batman's and Wonder Woman's struggles, I don't buy Clark's for a second. It's always some exterior factor that makes him weak, not his personal limitations (because, of course, a full-powered Supes practically doesn't have any).

I've tried again and again to read his stories (particularly the ones recommended as standouts), but I can't help it, he bores me to tears.

When I saw Fry's comic in the Futurama episode "Lrrreconcilable Ndndifferences", Superman is the first thing that immediately popped into my head.

So, no, let's not make Superman a genius.

It depends... Superman's powers changes by each issue!  Are we talking about:

    - Post-CrisisSuperman?
    or
    - Pre-Crisis Superman

If Pre-Crisis Superman...then yes he does everything super.

If Post-Crisis Superman... then is it either:

    - Man of Steel Superman?
    - Rebirth Superman?

    or
    - Secret Origins Superman?

I know... I'd be super confused too.

There's a short story out there, called "Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex," that lays down the details on Superman's super sperm.  This was seen in the book Alien Sex, and more recently in a book of essays about Superman (sorry, don't remember the title of that one).  I kid you not.

You do realize all these "super powers" come from the Silver Age, don't you? All this nonesense has been left out of continuity a real long time ago. There's no reason this and only this would not allow you to get into the character. Of course, if there are other reasons...

When Superman is stuck in the slums fighting as a gladiator, it's noted that he has Super-hygiene, so that even though he's unshaven and his clothes are in tatters, he's still clean.

It's reinforced later by linking the hygiene with his invulnerability, and explaining that he projects an aura of invulnerability that protects his clothes from being blasted off from everything that comes his way. It also helps him stop a falling airplane without simply shredding it to pieces in his hands.

The answer: Yes. everything Superman does is super. And that's why he is no longer super in my opinion. He's TOO super. He isn't believable as a character and the power battles are too enormous.

Not everything that is super means that is it's good. Take for instance, Superman has super speed, this could mean not so super this for Lois in the boudoir.

Those comic examples were so corny. lol

This article made me think of that argument in the movie Mallrats about whether or not Lois Lane could survive having Superman's baby and if he would need to use a Kryptonite condom for protection.

I can understand why DC toned-down Supes powers in one of the reboots.

@dondasch: @dondasch: hi I once owned a comic book that explored how his glasses he wore as Clark Kent actually made people see him differently and that there was such a difference that people could never think Clark was superman it was like the power of suggestion was so strong that he didn't even know he was doing it it was a pretty cool comic book   it had a picture of a very strange haggard Clark on the cover
