the ate great Michael Turner vs the great Jim Lee. who do you think has the better Superman?
and who's art do you enjoy more overall?
Character » Superman appears in 18942 issues.
Jim Lee overall. Based on those pics I would choose Michael Turner, but based on Jim's drawings in Superman Unchained, he wins.
@rulerofthisuniverse: I wish Michael would've had the chance to be apart of the new 52....
MIchael Turner was an amazing artist...But Jim Lee is THE artist. It's like Jim Lee is the Paul McCartney of comic book artists. There may be someone better than him, but his impact tacked on to his talent makes him a comic book GOD.
If Jim Lee is Paul McCartney then I guess that makes Turner Kurt Cobain. Just to round out the analogy.
@night_thrasher: Nah Turner would be Eric Carr from Kiss.
@squalleon: Except that Carr is overshadowed by Peter Criss and Turner is definitely a lead singer type.
Well he never got the spotlight he deserved.
If you search his work he never got to work in major titles. He only did covers for them.
@squalleon: All true; but Eric Carr was never and would have never been compared to McCarney. Cobain might have if he'd lived long enough. Carr would've been compared mostly to Criss. I was kinda going for the "unlimited potential gone before his time lead singer". It was between Cobain and Freddie Mercury to me.
@night_thrasher: Well Turner really hadn't anymore to give he died at his peak.He wouldn't became better just more known from now on.His art was at his finest. I see your points though
Really, it's the spine thing that gets to me. If he didn't objectify chicks by making them arch their backs THAT much or to that extreme, I really wouldn't have a problem with it. They're details and stuff are good. It's just the poses they're so often in that get to me.

Dude, go jump on his pole already, would you?
Ah...the blissful ignorance of the internet....gotta love it!
Early 2000's Lee was the king. Hush and For Tomorrow are probably the best things he's ever illustrated in his life. At their bests, Lee draws the better Superman.
Turner R.I.P was awesome too though! He had a really neat and different style and it's probably the only reason I even remember God Fall. His work on Superman/Batman was fantastic. Also, I don't care if his proportions were off or not, the man could draw a HOT Supergirl.
@perezite: Care to expand on the "pole jumper" comment? I would take your word for it that I'm a "pole jumper" based on your VAST expertise on the subject. But I'm one who often needs the reasoning behind an answer to fully embrace it.
to me Michael turner would have "taken the torch" from lee had he lived. his art is so unique and fresh and he givescharacters presence. his backgrounds were always beautiful and I think if he had drawn incredible stories like lee he'd be remembered as lee's equal. if turner drew allstar superman or something great like that he'd be solidified as one of the greats.
Well they have both have there own style on there characters but I like Jim Lee better but I still enjoy Turners art.

I was merely commenting on your liberal use of the word "god" to describe Jim Lee. Being a strong supporter of theology, and a believer that your not a true god until you can warp reality at least on a planetary scale, I do hate it when people use that term to describe and glorify VERY mortal, VERY frail, VERY soft and squishy, and VERY limited human beings.
Just call him a legend or his work legendary or prolithic or something else that doesn't make him out to be anything more than good at his craft, because really, that's all he's got.
@perezite: The use of the word GOD was preceded by the phrase comic book. So any comparisons to him and Allah is baseless. Now your offense to me using the phrase could have been objected in a more constructive manner than calling names. Instead of bringing up a point and stating your objections in a constructive way you only succeeded in trolling. And my calling Jim Lee a comic book god does not in any way portray my particular fandom of said man. I like JIm Lee as an artist but he is not by any means my favorite. My use of phrase is simply acknowledging the man's accomplishments, skill and importance to said medium.

So?...
Also:
"So any comparisons to him and Allah is baseless."
Cute.
@perezite:My use of phrase is simply acknowledging the man's accomplishments, skill and importance to said medium.
Then acknowledge him without deifying him or making him any greater than he is, as the word god would imply/connotate.
Everyone at my local comic book store loves Jim Lee and so do I, though I think his Justice League run was lackluster. I saw above the whole Paul McCartney and Kurt Cobain References, but I'll put it better. Jim is Batman, and Turner Grayson. Great character in his own right, good enough to even become on occasions, but not The Batman
