I know I'm in the minority here, but none of the trailers have got me excited for this film at all. Looks like they're trying a bit too hard. That's just my opinion though.
@turoksonofstone: You aren't a Superman fan you're a Siegel and Shuster fan, and despite what you seem to think the Superman they created hasn't existed since the mid forties, he didn't even the same symbol they came up with by the third issue after they left. Hell they didn't even give him the ability to fly, that was a DC mandate that was forced on him after Captain Marvel started doing it.
@turoksonofstone: Also since you're all about fair compensation did Siegel and Shuster ever toss the dude they ripped off who wrote Gladiator whose novel featured a character who was pretty much exactly the same as GA Superman. The answer is no.

What do you mean by this exactly? How can a trailer, who's very nature is to get people excited for the movie ''try too hard"? Also how can you say that about ALL of the trailers when they are exact opposites from one another? The early ones were very subtle and only showed scenes of Clark, as a young kid, as an adult trying to find his way, talking to his dad etc, these newer ones show Superman, fighting, pure action, confronting Zod. So I don't see how ALL the trailers can be trying to hard when they each are trying different things.
The Superman movie will probably end up losing money same as the Green Lantern flop which spent too much money on marketing that was never recovered. I was expecting more changes/updates to Superman for the movies but it is too similar to the old Christopher Reeve movies and the flop Superman Returns.
I am so excited about this film ever since the teaser trailer at the start of Batman dark knight rises at the cinema. The fight scenes in this trailer are just wow man of steel is going to be so ridiculously epic

I literally have no idea how this could possibly live up to the hype these trailers generate. They hint at themes that are so incredibly strong, and such fine tuned handling thereof - and in your mind they're allowed to SEEM perfectly executed, but will the film itself actually follow up on them in a way satisfying enough to meet your expectations?

You're kidding right? On one hand we have this other guy complaining that it's nothing like Superman, and then you say it's too similar to the Donner/Singer movies. ??? Are we watching the same footage?
There is literally more action in the around 5 minutes we've seen of MoS than the entirety of Superman Returns.

well its kinda a ripoff of a ripoff. Bane, then Manderin, then Zod, all doing something similar. I wasn't happy or mad about Manderin, cause I don't really know him. BUT if Zod got that way id be so FREAKING PISSED!

Are you serious or have you just never seen the Richard Donner directed Superman movies?
For one Donner and Snyder are about as different as directors can be. Donner has the very classic slow pace style of old(er) hollywood. Snyder is all fast pace and fancy style. Both good in their own way. Snyder can make a great film if he has a great script and he doesn't become like certain visionary directors (cough, Burton) and becomes self-indulgent.
Based on the tone of the trailers, MoS will be much more somber than the Donner movies (yes, Superman Returns was somber, but in a very boring way). Donner's Supes was the classic high flyin, smiling boyscout space Jesus Superman. Snyder's seems to be struggling to fit in with the world.
And finally, Superman Returns didn't flop. It recouped its budget and then some. It's still a terrible movie, but not because it was too similar to the Donner films, but because it was boring as hell and for a Superhero movie that is the worst critism.
OK if the trailers don't "move" you I accept that some people are not so easily moved. I myself was not quite so "moved" by the teaser trailer, but I find it quite hard to believe you are in fact a Superman fan as you say when the first words of your first comment were "LMAO. I hope this movie fails." I find that to be total BS.

Simple. I am a fan of Jerry Siegel's & Joe Shuster's Superman as depicted for the majority of his existence panties and all.
I think all the current changes to Superman and DC at large suck.
New 52/Man of Steel Superman is a different character.
just cause' I dig Batman or Superman as Characters doesn't mean I have to like every or any adaptation of him.
I kind of get what he says, I like Dragon Ball, but when Evolution was announced, I hoped that it will fail, mostly because if that film was a success (Which hopefully it wasn't) then DBZ would probably be made into a big screen piece of poop.
That and also Transformers (I just didn't like it for some reason, mainly for the explosions and the explosions), for some reason people think I'm stupid for believing the Cartoon Classic Transformers is superior to the movies (Which it totally is)
Yeah but I don't think its fair to compare Man Of Steel to Evolution. Right from the get go I also hoped Evolution would fail being a dragonball fan because of the plot. He was in high school! and James Marsters as piccolo just looked silly, and I'm a big James Marsters fan. Same thing with Transformers, only because it didn't really feel like it was about Transformers. It was about Shia labeouf's character dealing with transformers. Everything from Man of Steel sounds like it'll be pretty faithful to the source material so far.

I think you've spoiled your metaphor, if instead of being hired by Luthor (who is an even bigger villain to Superman) he was an actor hired by some no-name character who died mere moments after he came into existence then you'd be spot on. at least at the end of your scenario we'd still have a classic villain people know and love.

Man, based on most of the comments, it will either be epic or a complete failure. I won't change that either. I think this movie will be amazing. Snyder and Nolan have done pretty well with comic book movies, and they will do well here. I love Superman, and have been waiting a long time for another good Superman movie. Oh, and Superman Unchained will be full of awesome as well.
