Let's not forget Blu-Ray sales. http://www.the-numbers.com/alltime-bluray-sales-chart
Also, I think MOS is a great movie if you watch it without preconceived notions of what the character is supposed to be. It's just like any other elseworld or rebooted story. They are establishing the character, and most of the complaints I see revolve around Superman being able to do something that wasn't established in the movie.
Examples:
1. Saving Pa Kent from a tornado. - Johnathan, Martha and Clark don't know for sure that he(Clark) would survive that. Plus he's only 17 at that moment. What parent would let their child risk that.
2. All the destruction. If Clark doesn't stop the world engine, none of it matters. He can't fly around the world backwards and reverse time. He has actual limits to his powers. He's also in the middle of learning these limits. He doesn't know he won't be killed stopping the world engine.
3. Killing Zod. He has only seconds to make this decision, and he isn't sure he made the right call afterward. He can't be as lucky as the Avengers and have every alien fall down dead at once or be bailed out by the helicarrier. He makes a tough call and handles the burden of living with the decision.
The problems with the movie are that it was poorly done. If you're using a character that's been fleshed out in previous works, you do the character right. People will have preconceived notions, but those won't matter if the character is done right and the movie is good.
What child would let their parents die like that when they can save them with very little effort? Especially cause he wouldn't have had to run into the tornado.
The destruction that happens isn't the issue before the world engine is stopped. It's the issue after. But Clark doesn't show caring about it either.
He doesn't handle the burden. He's happy go lucky in the next scene and doesn't care. If the avengers had killed all the aliens and cried out in horror at it, then in the next scene were happy go lucky that would be a problem there too.
God bless you! God bless everyone in your life!
