''like'' or ''hate'' superman?
@cooldes: I don't think you understand the point of the character
Trying to get into him as of now.
That is naughty...
Not a battle...and hating a made up character?
I know right? Everyone's acting like babies around here.
I don't care if people dislike the personality or traits of a character but hate? Seriously? Grow up. If you want to hate something, hate on the writer.

You have a dirty mind. Lol.
Superman is awesome. Being as powerful as he is and always showing restraint. Having that much power and abusing it is very easy, yet Superman fights that urge all the time. That is one of the many reasons I like Superman.
@peppeyhare: i do, as a cbaracter, or a role model supes is an ok guy :)
...but for battles(on this site for example) he is just stupidly OP and has the most ridiculous feats
Love it when people call in the moderators like some kind of prison snitch. Oh Godspawn, where are you? It's me! Your ass kisser.

It's kind of a weird opinion from someone who has Aizen as his avatar. Wanna see overpowered characters with no explaination? Go to mangas. And Bleach? It's the manga where people can destroy the landscape while parrying with their swords... so... yeah...
@cooldes: ... but don't you see that it is just your opinion? How is eating a fruit a better explaination than being an alien with a peculiar reaction to some radiations?
I get if you like more one style than the other, but the explaination for Superman's powers are just as good as any other comic book hero.
@matteopg: it's a magical fruit.
"it's magic,
I aint gotta explain shit"
And no fruit is anywhere near as OP as superman so there is no comparison.
superman absorbing radiation from a sun as small as ours and being able to close blackholes in his hand, moving ftl, holding infinite weight, etc makes no sense whatsoever.
Even one piece with tgere magical fruit wouldn't even dare take it THAT far...
And you saying "is just as good" is an opinion itself.
Who doesnt like superman!!!! Whats there not to like????
Don't open that can of worms ^^'

@wolverine08: if you know what I mean...
@xchaix: It's a common thing on here. For a while, one of the top posters on the Superman forums was a guy named Zardu who kept making threads about how Superman needs to be more realistic, relatable, scientifically accurate and depowered. People like that can always clog up forums for fans of the character.
He's one of my favorites now. I used to like him a lot as a kid but I started drifiting towards other characters, but I've started liking the character a hell lot more these past couple of weeks, especially thanks to Rebirth bringing back Pre-52 Superman and killing off that New 52 Superman douchebag.

Wow, never thought I'd agree with you. lol
@eto: Why? It's not like I'm contrarian or anything. Lol
Superman's always been my favorite since I was a kid, but he's had a bad run lately, go ask some kids under 15 who their favorite superhero is and very few say Superman, I have faith his popularity will return

This.
He is probably the best superhero character in the world when written well, as his context is insanely good. Like all stories, though, the artistry of the writer is everything, and fortunately the Rebirth material is fantastic.
The sense of optimism and hope that is imbued in Vol 1 'Son of Superman' is perfect for the character.
I like the character potential, and I love what he could be.
What I hate is the writers. It's my opinion and belief that nine out of ten writers, can't write Superman correctly.
So my complaints go mainly towards the writers, not the character.
It's the writers that fumble with the work and then the character obviously loses on all ends.
Overall I like him as a character, but I wish his powerset and weakness would change some. One of the things that I hate the most about Superman is how so many writers, movie directors and general people misunderstand him as a character and portray him in bad ways. And his villain gallery isn't much better in how they are often portrayed.
Sometimes I wonder if the people that hate Superman gave a fair shot to one his most well received books. When I first started reading comics, I was a Batman fan and things between Batman and Superman fans can be heated so I hated on Superman and thought about him the classic critiques against his character (that he is OP , that he is bland and that he is boring). But then I saw a user in here whose opinion on Batman I respected that really liked Superman. So I thought that I haven't give Superman a fair chance and I decided to check lists with the best Superman books, after reading parts of Grant Morrison's Batman and loving them, when I saw that one of the most loved Superman books was made by him, I couldn't resist to pick it up if he couldn't make me love Superman nobody could. Luckly I loved All Star Superman, It potrayed all of Superman's strengths and It showed why my critiques were shallow, It made me love Lex Luthor and his rivalry with Superman at depth level. I know why there were so many people that loved him, he was awesome, he was us at our best but he still felt really human to me.
After that I looked into other well received Superman books, that featured a more mainstream Superman (I didn't wanted to get my first impression of books that show Superman in conditions he wouldn't normally be). And I noticed why he wasn't OP (this didn't really matter as All Star Superman showed me) and why he was such an awesome hero and person. But I really hadn't saw why he was so important for the DC universe in general, He certainly wasn't the most powerful, and he is the first but that doesn't me that todays comics should respect that and I hadn't read Kingdome come so I didn't get my answers from there. Then I read the first TPB of Morrison's JL that's first book that made me love the DC universe as a whole a made me love many more heroes. Superman didn't do much physically on that first story but he will always have one of my favorite moments on the book and It's also the moment where I noticed how important he was for the DC Earth.
This moment where the whole Justice League seems to be unsure of their purpose and objective, Superman is the one who marks the way.
Superman is unfair to put a label hope and optimism towards, he's like magic in that he's unreliable illogical and I don't take anything not human serious, but I do respect his complex nature when written right. But overall to convey serious themes of hope and all good, he fails since he cannot really make a different in how people are or inspire anyone everywhere because the DCU would be a utopia by now if that were the case. I find Spider-Man and Captain America much better heroes in marking that message to people.
