Yesterday, I read an article detailing how Val-Zod is the true Symbol of Hope that Superman should always be, and how the Earth-2 character could potentially be the turning point in taking Superman back to what made him a hero in the first place?

Here's the article, written by Reid Vanier. It's a little long, but it's worth the read.

I personally agree that, should Val-Zod take off, it could be a big thing for the name Superman going forward. I'm curious what others have to say on the matter, though.

Morrison already did it with President Superman, Howard Charkin in Son of Superman, the Last family of Krypton did it and many more.
Anyway no the there isn't gonna be an end to evil Superman stories and the appearance of Val-Zod doesn't mean anything. As long as the concept sells DC is gonna use it. The concept is used since the 60s and it isn't gonna stop.More evil Supermen will come and more good Supermen will come too. Its a circle.

@squalleon: Not saying that it will end Evil Superman stories. I like them, myself.

What I meant is that Val-Zod is different than the way Superman has been portrayed as primarily broody. He's a hopeful, optimistic character despite all the bad that surrounds him. Isn't that what Superman should, be I wonder? Not oblivious, but choosing to focus more on the positive.

No, because he would literally stand by and watch people die instead of doing anything, he's no good to anyone that way either. I would rather a superman who beats the crap out of planetary threats after giving them a warning first, which he seems to do, instead of one who stands by and does nothing. I think he will step out of that pacifist mode, because signs are already showing he has, but he is not someone I see as a protector or hope. Other people had to talk him into it , and be his hope.

Again plently or writers done it before :)

Morrison even done it with mainstream Superman in Action Comics. Clark under Morrison was a pacifist, not even playing violent video games, optimistic, inspiring hope to metropolis citizens, helping them build their broken houses. or uniting all the people under his guidance to send the imp back to the 5th dimension.

I can see how the writer can miss that considering all those versions lying around.

Even before the recent revelation about E2 Evil Superman actually being Bizarro, I found this article to be really far-fetched and couldn’t understand the leaps of its author’ logic.
