People that hate him have never read a Superman comic.
Superman
Character » Superman appears in 18939 issues.
Sent to Earth as an infant from the dying planet Krypton, Kal-El was adopted by the loving Kent family and raised in America's heartland as Clark Kent. Using his immense solar-fueled powers, he became Superman to defend mankind against all manner of threats while championing truth, justice, and the American way!
Is Superman the most hated superhero?
" People that hate him have never read a Superman comic. "I know of a Superman uber hater that has read almost every single comic that has come out since Byrne's retcon. The owner of the comicbook store I buy my stuff from. Hehehe! That Batman c*cks*cker! Hehehe! But despite that, he's my friend. I love the guy. He sold me a 12" Alex Ross Superman Statue for only 20 aussie dollars just to prove a point that he cares nothing for Superman. That's like 18 US dollars for a 200 dollar statue!
I think a lot of people who don't like Superman don't like the idea of him. They probably haven't read to many Superman comics. All-Star Superman anyone? I love Batman but not every comic book he's in is good.
People have told me they don't like him because he's too overpowered. I think then it would be up to the writer to construct a story where Superman doesn't have to rely on his strength (which they often do).
" For me I HATE HIM! "Booooooo! Once I get my hands on you, you'll be begging Superman to save your hating a*s!!!
I of course am a hostile fanboy.. :D Booooooooo! Hehehehehe! Peace!
Superman is a fantastic hero and many people who don't read comics hate him because they think he's overpowered (of course there are others who just don't like him even if they have read stuff like All Star Superman) even though he's not even close to the most powerful character out there he's not even the strongest hero out there. There of course is also a gigantic fan base for Superman, which just like every other popular thing gets downed by some people it's usually just a reaction by people towards a certain thing/characters popularity.
"thats a deep quote
Somewhere, in our darkest night, we made up the story of a man who will never let us down."
-Grant Morrison
but the reason he's so hated is because of:
1. People who have never read his comics think that he is overpowered
2. People who have never read his comics think he is a one dimensional character
3. People simply think he's too overpowered whereas MM pretty much has all of Superman's powers plus telepathy and others. Also, if they were to think straight, Green Lanterns have way more powers than Superman and are even more overpowered if you think that way
4. Anime fan boys take the Superman vs. Goku debate way too seriously
5. Haters gonna hate
" @ForbushBug said:Agreed. That issue was amazing. Though I didn't really like the artwork that much. Still, the story behind it was amazing." @caesarsghost said:You're right! I love Action Comics 775! "" @Nobody: Agreed. Also, for some reason, there is this idea that because something is classic (i.e. pre-1960s Marvel renaissance) that means it is somehow outdated, irrelevant and less valuable- a fallacious idea. Those who hate on Superman have no respect for comic history, and I, in turn, have difficulty finding respect for their opinions. "And that's why Action Comics #775 owned so much. It took that criticism head on. "
A lot of people who hate him have never read a comic with him and think he is a generic superhero sterotype from the 50's which is BS.
Others hate him because he usually beats characters they like ei DBZ fanboys for example

That's one of the reasons why I liked Action comics 775 - it showed how everyone thought he was outdated and all and they say that it's stupid that he doesn't kill and he shows he's still able to be a great hero without having to kill or anything. DBZ and Marvel fanboys are also usually the people who hate him.

" @MrDirector786 said:It was about how some group of "heroes" led by Manchester Black are taking care of disasters and things before Superman can deal with them but they have no qualms about using deadly force. Superman protests against them for this and they say that he's outdated and his methods are not going to work in the modern day. As the days go by, more people seem to be favoring them over Superman and his ideals are being thrown away everywhere. Finally, he actually challenges them and although at first Superman's losing, he comes back and seemingly kills all of them except for Black who he then lobotomizes and then Black goes crazy and says he went to their level but reveals he didn't actually kill any of them and he doesn't need to kill to be a good hero. I liked it because the issue tackled that criticism head on as ForbushBug said. A lot of people that hate Superman say crap like he doesn't kill or his costume is lame and his ideas are old and all, and then the writers went off and made an issue just to show them that they're wrong about all of that with the issue." @ssejllenrad said:What was it about? " @MrDirector786: I rememeber that he said something like that to Superboy-Prime or i am mistaken? "It wasn't the same exact thing he said to Prime. He told Prime that being Superman isn't about the costume or powers but what you do. He told Black that he doesn't need to do things like kill to be a hero.
*facepalm* my bad" @Primmaster64 said:

" @MrDirector786: IDK where I can find it. "Well, it's about 20 dollars from amazon. But I recommend you get it in the Trade Paperback collections. It's in the Superman: Greatest Stories ever Told trade paperback along with other great stories. You could try to find that. My local library had it. That's where I saw it along with some other great stories throughout Superman's history.
" @MrDirector786: Libaries have comics? "Yeah. They should be in the graphic novels section. That's where I found Superman: Greatest Stories ever told. My library also had Batman: Greatest Stories ever told, Batman: year one, Superman/Batman Public Enemies, Superman Godfall, and others.
" @MrDirector786: Does Borders count as a library?(If you know what Borders it) "I think Borders is more of a Bookstore. However, I'm certain it does have it. I just checked their site and it seems you can order Superman: Greatest Stories ever told for 20 dollars from there.
Don't hate, used to when I was younger. I just find him boring and have no interest in reading the character. I don't mind him in crossover company wide event stories or guest appearances or in a team book, but Supes by himself has no appeal to me outside of Elseworlds that is.
I'm a hardcore Superman fan but the current Grounded arc is pushing some more people away from him. Damn you JMS! If it wasn't for Earth-One I would have wanted you dead! Good thing Earth One was awesome!
He's not seen as boring, outdated, and out of touch. A lot of hardcore comic readers have the same complaints as non-readers when it comes to Supes; "He's boring/outdated/too powerful/etc." some of these things I agree with. I've never really related to Supes, he's never connected with me. I get him, I understand his importance to the medium, but I just don't care. I've tried delving into the character, but I really can't find a thing about him that appeals to me. And all his positive qualities I find in other characters sans his flaws.
Case in point: That uber popular crapfest called Twilight. Nyehehehehehehe! So remove the whinny mushy emo parts of Twilight add some badass into it and you have Batman. Har har! I may be off in this analysis but whatever.. :D
But really... Superman's Truth, Justice and American way is waaaaaaaaaaay too downplayed by today's society. I partly blame liberalism. Superman is an ideal conservative and his "traditional" values and virtues are too "republican" for some.
" @Primmaster64: Batman is darker. People nowadays like darker themes. Case in point: That uber popular crapfest called Twilight. Nyehehehehehehe! So remove the whinny mushy emo parts of Twilight add some badass into it and you have Batman. Har har!LOL
But I do agree with how his ideals are downplayed too much. It also reminds of one of the main reasons why I liked Action Comics 775.
" @JonesDeini: Not everyone is gonna like Supes...But saying that he's overpowered or ect is pretty ignorant of people, then those same people say that Thor is more powerful and can beat Supes with is? WTF is that? "I think the main problem with people saying Superman is overpowered and Thor can beat him is that they deny Thor is overpowered despite him supposedly being more powerful. I have seen some people who say they think Thor would beat him but they also admit that they think Thor is overpowered. I'm fine with those people. It's people who claim Superman is overpowered but Thor isn't and somehow Thor is more powerful.
" @ssejllenrad: It seems that people like Dark and emotional stuf...What does that say about society today? "Society today is evil
" I FKING LOVE SUPERMAN! UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR ASS TO BE GRASS, I SUGGEST YOU DO THE SAME! "Haha! Now this just ends this thread perfectly! We can close this now.. :D
