@GunGunW: So, what you're saying is that the former Supermen used to be canon until New 52 came?

With some imagination, it is possible to harmonize all the Superman stories from 1938 to present and everything can be canon.

COIE wiped out the silver age continuity for Byrne's Man Of Steel, Byrne's MOS was replaced by Superman: Birthright, Infinite Crisis removed Birthright from canon for Superman Secret Origin and finally Flashpoint replaced Secret Origin for the Current New 52 Superman.

So no silver age Supeman isn't canon, DCNU Superman is canon (currently).

@st0nnec0ld: Silver Age Supes was canon up to 1985 when he made his final appearance in Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow and Crisis on Infinite Earths. After that, he was no longer canon.

There was pretty much only 1 canon Superman up to 1985 altho this Superman did evolve bec. the explanation for the super powers changed over time, Superman gained new powers like flying and heat vision, Superman also gained a career as Superboy. Once earth 1 and earth 2 were invented in 1961, the earliest adventures were given to the Superman of earth 2 so the canon Superman sort of split into 2 : earth 2 Superman and earth 1 Superman. The canon Superman became the earth 1 Superman which lasted up to 1985 and the earth 1 Superman lost all of the older stories which were assigned to the earth 2 Superman. With crisis on infinite earths in 1985 and the John Byrne reboot of Superman, the John Byrne Superman pretty much lost all of the old pre-1985 stories. With the new 52 reboot in 2010, the current canon Superman lost all of the old pre-2010 stories.

Very succinct review of Supes from '85 to now. I applaud you sir for putting it this way.

Silver Age Superman was wiped out in 1985 and replaced by Post-Crisis Superman. During Infinite Crisis, a close analogue to the Silver Age Superman was brought into continuity, and the Post-Crisis Superman was wiped out. In Flashpoint, revived Silver Age Superman was wiped out again and replaced with New 52 Superman.

It's stated that was an 'Imaginary Story'.

However, it was a good way to say goodbye to the Pre-Crisis days.

With the topic of discussion, unfortunately no. Silver Age Superman is not in continuity. Nor has he been since following "Crisis on Infinite Earths" back in 1985. Which effectively ended the Pre-Crisis universe that the Earth-1 Silver Age Superman resided in.

During COIE, the Post-Crisis universe was created with a singular earth named New Earth. A present-day reality where the various elements of the five Earths, and it's heroes, that were not destroyed by the Anti-Monitor were fused into one single Earth, with no one except the people present at the battle at the dawn of time remembering the original reality. To which started the Post-Crisis continuity with the Post-Crisis Superman.

The Post-Crisis continuity was shaken up a bit in 2005 with Infinite Crisis, but continued on. What Infinite Crisis effectively did was fusing Pre-Crisis and Post-Crisis continuity together. Establishing that all that Pre-Crisis Earth-1, Earth-Two stuff that had long been ignored by DC since the start of the Post-Crisis continuity, actually DID happen as character's recalled events that transpired during the Pre-Crisis continuity along with the return of Golden Age Superman from Earth-Two, and Superboy-Prime.

Much of the Post-Crisis continuity was still the PRIME continuity, but Infinite Crisis made it so that the Pre-Crisis continuity did indeed transpire in some form. Some refer to it as the Post-Infinite Crisis continuity.

Even though Golden Age Earth-Two Superman returned, Silver Age Earth-1 Superman did not. Nor did his cousin Supergirl, who died during COIE. The Post-Crisis universe had introduced a Post-Crisis Supergirl, and DC chose to stick with her just as they stuck with the Post-Crisis Superman.

2011's Flashpoint brought an end to the Post-Crisis/Post-Infinite Crisis Superman mythology. Since Sept 2011, we now have the New 52 Superman that has no ties to Pre-Crisis, Post-Crisis, or Post-Infinite Crisis continuity.
