I know many Superman fans dislike The Dark Knight Returns (my personal favorite Batman story).

Man of Steel was a good film IMO (despite getting trashed by many Christopher Reeve fans and critics), but it was a fresh start to a new Superman. Batman had just finished a trilogy with 3 very successful films (which had done wonders for Batman's popularity among fans and critics).

However, just when Superman was getting his thunder again, Batman stole it. The announcement of Batman in the MOS sequel has generated more buzz than Superman himself, all the attention seems like it's on Batman. And to make matters worse, it seems like Batman is going to defeat Superman in the movie too (the DKR quote was quoted, which implies so).

If that does happen, will the whole ''Batman beats Superman'' trend start again?

This is the 900th topic about this. We won't know until the movie is out.

We can speculate though. Snyder is a massive fan of DKR and has even contacted Miller about it, going as far as quoting the scene where he beats Superman suggests that Affleck's Batman could be the DKR Batman (also been stated this Batman is ''wearier'').

Probably because we have already seen cavill's superman and this is a new batman. But I am actually more more excited about seeing superman again. We will have to wait and see

This and Snyder already said that its not based on TDKR, Batman won't beat Superman.

Probably will, Affleck's guy is rewriting Geyer's script. Chances are that it's not because Affleck felt he was too focused in the story and wanted to give Superman some love, it was probably because Affleck didn't like being second fiddle.

Are you serious? It was probably because Goyer's script, having being penned by David Goyer, was ridiculously bad and should have been incinerated right after completion.

Probably. But won't it be hilarious if Wonder Woman ends up stealing the spotlight from both of them?

But Goyer is good with screenplays, he contributed to the Dark Knight trilogy (which is awesome).

@saren: That too, but when was the last time Affleck played second fiddle? No way he got on board without being guaranteed some perks.

I hope they don't go the DKR returns route, but I'm worried since Affleck looks to be an older Batman (which is quite weird especially at what's supposed to be the beginning of a cinematic universe).

WW seems to be stealing both characters' thunder as of late.

It's inevitable Batman is going to steal the spotlight not because he's a better character, but because people will be looking forward to his portrayal in the movie. We already know Superman in this universe, so any additional character introduced will essentially steal the spotlight

Will Batman steal Superman's thunder, perhaps at some point but you just know that Superman will be the one to get the job done by the end of the movie, esp if Doomsday Is involved...

I'd say that Batman will probably be the main reason most people will be going to see this movie. He already has the thunder so it's pretty difficult for him to steal it from anyone. If anything hopefully it will boost Superman's popularity even more with them both sharing the spotlight, a lot of people are going to be introduced to the awesomeness that is the World's Finest team for the first time, and when they realise how awesome they are they will also realise how awesome Superman is.

Batman is a better character. He should steal his thunder.
