I thought this was an interesting article that everybody should read: No, Man of Steel’s Superman is Not Your Superman. And That’s Okay.

However I thought that this quote (from Emily Asher-Perrin who wrote the article) was interesting:

So he’s not everyone’s Superman, but he still has a great deal to teach us. For my part, I’d prefer this sort of Superman to the one who is already a better person at age 18 than I will become at any point in my life. It might be more fun for a new audience to grow alongside him rather than in his wake, as Jor-El insists we do. He’s a different sort of hero, but that doesn’t mean he can’t guide us to the best in ourselves and humanity. He’s not your Superman, but he is someone’s Superman. And that deserves respect, too.

That article is almost exactly how I feel about the movie. Even though I do have a Superman I grew up with and all, I was still able to accept MoS as a fresh new take on his character. Though he was a little different, at his core he was still the same Superman so it was easy to accept those differences. The writers take on Superman and Lois is very interesting. I never thought of it that way, and frankly, I really like it. Their chemistry was still poop in my opinion however. Hopefully it sparks in the next film lol

I wonder if I had liked Superman as a kid would I have gone as nuts as other Superman fans? I found TAS to be bland. JL was a massive improvement but I liked Wally more. As a kid I mostly just watched comedic cartoons. I honestly didn't get into Superman till the New 52 came around.

Did anyone else feel like thor the dark world was the asgardian version of man of steel?

I didn't think he needed to teach anything. I loved the movie and the portrayal of the character and world. Superman movies have unrealistic expectations. the character, the first film(which isn't any better then this one) and Christopher's situation.
