Sent to Earth as an infant from the dying planet Krypton, Kal-El was adopted by the loving Kent family and raised in America's heartland as Clark Kent. Using his immense solar-fueled powers, he became Superman to defend mankind against all manner of threats while championing truth, justice, and the American way!
We've had this topic before I think....my answer is usually that his power should fall somewhere short of Silver Age levels, i.e. moving planets and all that silly stuff. MOS film level was fine for me.
They need to be tweaked to the point where he isn't a walking PIS. Repairing reality with eye beams? Carrying a black hole in 1 hand (or any hands for that matter)?
A character without limits is a tough character to write for, but DC CONSTANTLY paints itself into a corner by allowing ridiculous feats to get past the editor.
Lobdell's benchpress feat served no purpose, he just did it there.
I honestly dont care as long as it's constant. This whole "whatever the plot demands" deal is ridiculous. And yes I am a Superman fan.
yeah I think the story should be written around the character and not the other way around ie within certain limits and parameters that conform to what Superman can do.
At max i want him at living tribunal level. At peak of his kryptonian condition, Odins level should be fine. Point here is that superman isnt about an alien but rather a god trying to live amongst human, so making him OP as hell wont damage his character the slightest.
