How does he sleep?

Him and other superpower beings with superhero have to have a hard time sleeping. I mean Superman can hear a baby sneeze in Australia while he is America, and he told Kara while she was flying away that no matter how far she goes she can still her his voice. So how does someone with super-hearing sleep.

Practice, practice, practice.

@PrinceIMC: how super-hearing is a passive power not an active one you can control it. Like Durability sups can't allow him self to be cut by a normal knife.

No but he can learn to focus and shut those things out. If his super-hearing is that good then his ability to focus on the important things and tune out the non-important things should be just as super. Otherwise he wouldn't be able to focus when people are speaking to him he'd just be hearing everything, everywhere at once. He can see microscopic things, distant things and through things but he doesn't have to at all times.

@PrinceIMC: good argument, but still something like a random explosion or noise we would consider loud has to sound like a rocket launching at close range to him and wake him up violently. even if he trained to hear only what he wants something random will be heard.

Does Superman need to sleep?

Kryptonian ear plugs?

Some people actually need noise to sleep. I used to need a radio on to fall asleep at all and actually had to train myself to sleep when its quiet

with his eyes closed

He's learned Kryptonian techniques that allows him to actively manipulate his own mind. In a fight, he can become super sensitive to stimuli, in order to intake and react to information. It would stand to reason he could go the other way with it, and actively shut down parts of his brain until he is, for all intents and purposes, asleep. Regardless of his other senses.

No, he doesn't, but I think he does it anyway.

My question is, how does Superman get a haircut? I know he shaves with heat vision, but it would be pretty hard to cut hair (especially since he keeps his kinda long) with heat vision.

Like others have said, just has to get used to the noise. It's like if you grew up in the country where nights are quiet except for crickets in the summer then move to an apartment in the city where there is traffic. It may be a few weeks of restless sleep but you will eventually get over the noise.

I've seen a Superman duplicate perform literal brain surgery ON HIMSELF with heat vision. Using only a barber shop mirror.

I'm pretty sure regular Superman could cut his hair with it.

Though I saw the aforementioned feat so long ago I'm not even sure the exact circumstances of why it happened. I think Lex Luthor was involved?

Yeah, maybe he trims the tips of his hair with it now that I think about it...invulnerability raises so many questions >.<

He sleeps because he has to relax psychologically ! Sleeping is important to the subconscious brain and even if superman isn't tired he still must sleep.I took that line straight from a comic but i don't remember which?

#19 Posted by joshmightbe (19451 posts) - 3 months, 29 days ago - Show Bio

I'm still going with the idea that Superman is just one of those people who don't need it to be quiet to sleep. There are lots of people that way, some people even need to have some noise while they sleep.

@The Stegman: He probably get magical clippers.

Super hearing seems more like an active ability than passive like his strength and durability. Otherwise, he'd hear everything at once.

#22 Posted by guttridgeb (4332 posts) - 3 months, 27 days ago - Show Bio

I'm pretty sure its been stated in one of the New 52 comics that Superman can control his hearing to a degree, I cannot remember which one. If I find it I'll post a scan.

I imagine it'd be similar to living in the city. A new city-dweller would find it difficult to sleep with the constant noise, but a long-time resident would sleep quite soundly, having adjusted to the sounds. However, a gunshot next door would still wake the acclimated person.

#25 Posted by Wboy (427 posts) - 3 months, 17 days ago - Show Bio

Kryptonians evolving to have that ability, their brain would also had to have evolved to be able to idunno, shut it out when he wants?

I don't see why his super brain wouldn't.

#26 Posted by Loki9876 (2681 posts) - 3 months, 17 days ago - Show Bio

maybe he can like block it out.

#27 Posted by DarkKnightDetective (6670 posts) - 3 months, 17 days ago - Show Bio

@Loki9876: I think it's the same way that DD does it, through meditation.

#28 Posted by Teerack (2838 posts) - 3 months, 17 days ago - Show Bio

He pretends to sleep, because Superman doesn't need to sleep or eat.

#29 Posted by son_of_tomorrow (158 posts) - 3 months, 11 days ago - Show Bio

I think it's a passive power, because superman has to focus to use the power to the degree of it being super.I think his hearing is normal unless he trained himself to automatically hear something of importance. It's not like he's hearing everything at once when he's clark kent. He hearing picks up on the things that are important is what I think.

#30 Posted by Ammo_Baba (11 posts) - 3 months, 11 days ago - Show Bio

@JonSmith: Actually superman doesn't need to sleep, eat, or even do anything that a normal humanoid would due to the yellow sun of earth constantly energizing him, and his own body acting as a solar battery, however he did do all of these things such as eat and sleep due to the unconscious blocks in his mind that he himself put limiting his power still thinking he was human . It has long been established in recent comics that superman has really stopped sleeping and eating and unclogged his mind allowing him to reach his full potential.

#31 Posted by Ammo_Baba (11 posts) - 3 months, 11 days ago - Show Bio

@Squalleon: Not sleep, meditate he's long abanonded sleeping and eating
