It's not hard to like the character, far from it. What's hard is to not get many titles while 20% of DC's roster is Bat titles. Hard to be a fan of something everyone else hates. Hard watching him shrug off explosives but fall from a punch from Batman. Hard to not get much additional media like games or cartoons, especially compared to Batman who gets new games and cartoons every year.

I must say, Supes may be an a-lister, but it doesn't feel that way anymore.

@zeejaybay: Everyone doesn't hate Superman. Everyone hates Superman fans. Not you in particular, but the fanboys in general are way too aggressive in their support of Supes. They kinda remind me of Tebow fans. Just plain obnoxious.

@zeejaybay: This. Even though Bats is one of my favorite characters, Superman would be pretty cool if it wasn't for the fanboys. They make him sound like he is a damn god and that no one can beat him. Just a few days ago most of them started boasting about how goku was defeated by superman and I just wanted them to ( forgive me mods) shut the fuck up. I guess people like batman more because well he is a frickin super hero without any superpowers which makes him special. Some people think superman has too many powers.

It's hard to make a character whose limitless, flawless, and don't mention kryptonite, Cool. Video games: He's not strong enough, or he's too powerful. Movies: isn't there one coming up? TV: wasn't he on JLU, and on YJ? Not to mention all his animated movies that came out. When did Flash get his solo animated movie? His solo movie? His solo game? His solo cartoon? Or Martin Manhunter What's this thread about? (+)

Superman has two books and is getting another one. He's also been in Justice league, and he's also showed up in literally half the first wave of new 52 titles. Compared to most other comic characters that aren't Batman or Wolverine you have it very easy

The way I see it, it's hard being a fan period. Wether you are a Superman, Batman, Hulk or Deadpool fan. Wether you like Synder, Bendis, or Morrison. It is hard being a fan cause there will always be haters to get under your skin. People love to express their hate.

#9 Posted by marvel123 (225 posts) - 4 months, 6 days ago - Show Bio

seems like it's much easier to be a fan of batman, wolverine, thor, silver surfer, wonder woman, deadpool, ect. those characters are constantly evolving, and have a strong fanbase.

idk i gues people are getting tired of a hero that could fly to the in in less than 8 min, move dwarf planets if he needed to,exert hurricane force winds with his breath, use heat vision, ect.

i guess people don't like seeing overpowered characters, idk.

for me, i'll always be a superman fan.....or at least a fan of the kryptonians

While I'm a fan of Batman, I'm also a very huge fan of Superman. I cannot ever choose between the two because Supes and Bats represent so much of what I want to be.

The main problem isn't the number of the titles but the quality! The bat family has the greatest artist and writers DC has to offer.Only the solo batman titles have Snyder,Capullo,Fabok,Jock( in back-ups!),Van Sciver etc! While Superman has Rags Morales who can't do a monthly!

The Superman family doesn't even compare to the batfamily in terms of quality staff!

i think mostly that is hard to be a superman fan, since his comics are usally...bad. the last years of his pre-52 continuity were awful except for some stories.

though i don't remeber that i have ever been so excited for his comics as i am this year. he seems to have again his old power level but he has still many enemies that are stronger than him...as helspont ( and i love that character).

plus he is getting a new amazing title...plus he is getting an amazing film! so 2013 will be a nice year after all.

@Squalleon: well theis year snyders going to be doing a superman title with jim lee and Scott lobdell and kenneth rocafort have been doing a great job with the solo title also the people on supergirl havent changed but there going stong same can be said for the superboy and action comic titles even if morrison is leaving AC the new team will do a great job.so the superman family titles are now up there with the bat family titles.

Personally, I met more annoying Superman hater than Superman fanboys. Then again, I don't spend much time in battle forums talking about feats. If these SM fanboys are obnoxious as Batman fanboys who constantly go off about prep time, then I understand being annoyed.

That doesn't change the fact that even the worst batman titles occupy the best artists and writers dc has to offer!

Superman, Green lantern,Wonder Woman,Flash could have been ten times better if dc gave them a better team!

Plus i don't agree on multi titles for one character!

Batman has 3 solo titles

Batman INC

BATMAN AND ROBIN

That means that at least 5 perfectly good creative teams are working only on batman!

I neither agree on a third Superman title except if it is a mini series.

Batman has aged better and is now doing ok in both comics and movies. Superman and Wonder Woman were also invented in the golden age but unfortunately saddled with silly elements for children that adults nowadays make fun of. Green Lantern is currently doing better as a space superhero similar to Jedi Knights. The Flash was also invented in the golden age and was unbelievable even in the golden age bec he was running at light speed even in the golden age. They did remember to add a mask for Flash in the silver age but forgot to do the same for Superman and Wonder Woman.

People were making jokes about Superman since I was a kid so I would estimate Superman was out of date and silly since the 1960s.

#28 Posted by Night Thrasher (2703 posts) - 4 months, 5 days ago - Show Bio

Superman doesn't get "hated" nearly as much as people say he does. A lot of people like the character and almost everyone respects him. But just because he isn't someone's favorite character or don't think he's the most powerful character doesn't mean they hate him.

#29 Posted by colonyofcells (1843 posts) - 4 months, 5 days ago - Show Bio

The marvel super heroes were invented after most of the dc super heroes so the marvel super heroes avoided most of the out of date features of the dc super heroes which started as stories for kids in the golden age. Marvel creators also had teen readers in mind and had a more adult take on their super heroes which currently translate better to live action movies. Like Iron Man has a full mask which makes it more believable that he can keep a secret identity altho he did not keep it for long in the movies since with modern technology, it is just hard to keep a secret identity in a realistic movie. Spider Man also has a full mask which also is more believable that he can actually keep a secret identity in spite of the amazing technology that the American government now has. Many marvel super heroes also have no secret identity which is more believable nowadays.

#30 Posted by Night Thrasher (2703 posts) - 4 months, 5 days ago - Show Bio

@colonyofcells: That's not entirely true. Timely had just as many if not more heroes during the Golden Age as DC did. The difference is when the Silver Age came Marvel basically started from scratch wereas DC revamped Golden Age characters. Marvel didn't really have teenagers in mind when they wrote their stories they just figured out that kids weren't as dumb as people thought and wrote stories that both kids and adults could enjoy.

#31 Edited by colonyofcells (1843 posts) - 4 months, 5 days ago - Show Bio

Both Kirby and Lee worked on Romance comics during the 1950s when there were few super heroes around before creating Thor, Hulk, iron man, x-men, etc. during the silver age so I am sure they were more used to creating stuff for older people. Whereas the dc stuff had more silly stuff for kids and this lasted up to the bronze age when dc fired many of the silver age creators and replaced them with new talent plus many marvel creators like Gerry Conway, Steve Englehart, Roy Thomas, George Perez, etc.

#33 Edited by colonyofcells (1843 posts) - 4 months, 5 days ago - Show Bio

Maybe I am a mutant and have amazing social networking super powers ? I think the New 52 is an improvement and hopefully, the jokes about underwear on the outside will finally die out after a few years which I have heard since I was a kid. More improvements are needed bec in the new Superman movie, Superman still looks like a male ballet dancer if you put Superman side by side with Iron Man and Wolverine. In New 52, the armor still looks like spandex which sort of beats the purpose of switching to armor. I championed the switch to an armor costume in the old dc forums before Flashpoint hit and I am very happy to be right, sometimes. I also championed using Philip Wylie's Gladiator and the 1938 illegal vigilante/terrorist Superman for a darker Superman in both comics and the movies.

Yeah, yeah you poor Superman fans. With your Action Comics and your Superman and a new ongoing coming out with freaking Jim Lee and Scott Snyder. You guys have it really rough.

You know....as opposed to being an X-23 fan. Her ongoing was cancelled and she wasn't appearing in anything else. Until the AMAZING Avengers Academy. A book in which they are continuously killing off characters and her fate is entirely up in the air.

Superman fans should be so lucky.

Disregarding that sarcastic rant. Why should it matter what they're doing with Batman as long as what they're doing stuff with Superman? He's soon going to have three ongoings, one of them done by two of DC's best. He's got a movie coming out. He appears in numerous forms of other media. He is cure toy part of a crossover with the Superman family books.

Try being a Wonder Woman fan and then we'll talk.

With 3 solo titles, Superman is still doing better than Wonder Woman (1), Hal Jordan (1), Barry Allen (1) in the comics. I would be more alarmed if there are 3 Hal Jordan books and only 1 Superman book. It does look like some creators do prefer to work on Batman and Hal Jordan, and there are also a few creators who prefer to work on Superman. Don't know if rumors of a 2nd Wonder Woman title are true.

I am a superman fan but i don't agree on a third supes title!

I would prefer if A listers get only 2 titles for their stories!

And WW definetely needs an onoing which will connect her with the DCnU because Azzarello seems to forget that he works in a shared universe :-P

Also X-23 isn't a A lister so don't compare her to Supes its a completely different matter

My guess is Warner must've spent a bundle to win the rights cases against the superman creators. Now dc seems to be putting in better writers and artists on the upcoming 3rd Superman title by Jim Collar Lee himself. Geoff seems to be the Hal loyalist.

Most people judge Superman by the way he look's and the powers he has, rather than the character itself. Non-comic readers always think Supes has no problem dealing with anything because of his abilities. They also seem to think Lex is his only enemy (Damn you Superman Returns).

#50 Posted by KingSwaggaMan (1 posts) - 4 months, 5 days ago - Show Bio

Im going to be honest with you these writers at DC are fucking retarded cause they seem to forget how to make superman deep. You know how they could make superman deep and complex DC, hes a FUCKING SCIENCE FICTION CHARACTER!!!!!! I swear man its easy to make superman deep in the realm hes based on sci fi and use complex stories with him dealing with Science Fiction themes of reality ( Philip K Dick Stuff) with Mr Myziplix shit i spelled his name wrong but you guys get the idea. You can easliy make a Sandman like Superman story with that villian with he taking to alternate timelines and seeing reality differently. You can have a Blade Runner type story with superman dealing with what it means to be human and not trying to be the sheep of society and be human. DC forgot that completly cause originally Jerry Siegal and Joel Shuster want superman to be a Science Fiction character that dealt with themes of science fiction. DC use supermans science fiction genre to your advantage or hire me to do it for you lol.
