Favorite Superman artist?

#1 Posted by FOOFAN007 (12 posts) - - Show Bio

Who draws Superman the best? Is it Kurt Swan? Is it Gary Frank or Jim Lee? Or how about the great art in All Star Superman?

#2 Posted by Gambit1024 (10217 posts) - - Show Bio

Alex Ross, Jim Lee, and Lionel Yu. In that order.

#3 Posted by SuperShafe (482 posts) - - Show Bio

Alex Ross and Gary Frank. Alex Ross is the best period, Gary Frank is the best for doing a monthly series and not a special project.

Alex Ross, Frank Quietly, Gary Frank and......Curt Swan

My Top 5

  1. Alex Ross -His paintings are absolutely unparalleled. He is the BEST IMO.
  2. Gary Frank -He draws Supes like Reeve. Nuff said.
  3. Jim Lee -Is there anything this man can't draw?
  4. Ivan Reis -He rarely draws Supes. But when he does, he excels. His Superboy Prime splash page back in SCW is still embedded in my brain.
  5. John Byrne -Almost a retro artist now but he drew the Supes that got me into comics.

Yo! There is no doubt that Alex Ross is a freakishly talented artist, even though he is not ''your personal style'' there is no discussion that he is objectively a very, very good artist... however he is one of those artists that i would rather have make me a poster, a painting or an occasionally comic book, for me personally it would get tiresome if ''Alex Ross'' was the style of all comics.

I think personally the Superman artists ive overall enjoy the most is Jim Lee and Gary Frank.

@azza04: What is the first picture from also is it any good??

#22 Posted by badaboop (143 posts) - - Show Bio

I agree with the choice of Alex Ross as the artist who interprets Superman the best. Besides the artists already mentioned, I also think Michael Turner did a pretty good job

#23 Posted by azza04 (1647 posts) - - Show Bio

@Z3RO180: It's just artwork Shane Davis did for the Earth-One graphic novel.

YES. I have always said that Ross is incredibly talented and iconic, but he's better suited to Variants and covers than actual interiors.

Actually, I'm not a fan of Alex Ross' Superman at all...his work on the Bat-universe is better for me...but that's just me I guess.

I agree with both, for an ongoing project I think Alex Ross would get tiresome.

For most of you here who probably didn't find Superman drawn by Curt Swan like I did you missed out.

My choices are

1. Curt Swan
2. John Byrne
3. Alex Ross

Rob Liefeld

Aaaaand that has to be a joke LOL

I don't get the Alex Ross favoritism. His Superman looks old and boring and he draws the red S way way way way WAY too big! It's annoying and distracting.

My favourites are: Alex Ross, Gary Frank, Dan Jurgens, Curt Swan, Kenneth Rocaforte and Rags Morales

#36 Posted by Z3RO180 (7774 posts) - - Show Bio

Jim lee and Kenneth Rocafort

Aaron Kuder is quickly becoming my favorite Superman artist and might take Rags place as number one. He draws the best bearded Superman ever!

I really like Tony Daniels art ( in general I guess )

#40 Posted by allend4bbt (40 posts) - - Show Bio

1. Michael Turner - I wish he were still around. Loved his art.

2. Alex Ross - I love his art, but his Supes tends to look old which isn't my preference.

3. Jim Lee - Amazing detail and action scenes.

4. Kenneth Rocafort - Has his own cool style.

5. Tony Daniels - Clean and smooth looking art.

This was tough to put in order, cause I like them all for different reasons.

Did people forgot about the only 3 scans rule in less than a week?

My favorite Superman artist would be either Curt Swan or Gary Frank.
