I'll try to not spoil anything but.... Hooooolllly craaaaaap!!!!! That was awesome! I watched it two times in a row. That's how good it was... OK, maybe that's just the fanboy in me.
OK. Serious now. Is it the best film of the year? So far, for me, yes. Is it the best Superman film to date? Again, yes. Is it the best superhero flick of all time? Hardly. It definitely reeks of Nolan more than Snyder but it felt lack in in a sense. Great visuals. Great take on Supes. But it lacked the depth of the recent Batman films.
That said, it stayed true to the title. It is all about Superman. It's Superman Begins... Ironically, he has more demons than that other superhero who has bat horns. But yeah, he's superman. He can sort them out. If you wish to see Smallville-esque romance, tough luck. This is a serious SciFi action film. This ain't a mushy juvenile flick. The "love theme" of Lois and Clark is there but it is on the sidelines.... Waaay on the sidelines.
Much shown are the influences of the two Robin Hoods... Wait... I mean his two fathers. More than ever, they play a much significant role. Yes, even more than Brando.
Villains? Ummm... OK. You can really see the conviction they have and it is explained a lot. But somehow (this is purely me), I saw more villainy in Faora than Zod. That's not a twist. She didn't turn out to be the big bad. But she was really really scarier.
