Never really bothered me. Not sure why he got so much flak for the red briefs while everybody loves Batman's costume with the black briefs over the grey pants.

Well, in a way I kinda do...his costume with the red briefs were iconic for over 70 years. It seemed a bit sad to alter his costume like that, but the new costume does look good as well.

I am a vocal critic of Superman, but they should have never changed his costume. Nevermind the red drawls, what about the yellow belt that he used to hold them up? Bring back the red drawls with belt loops and the yellow belt!

I think that its not a big deal to me, personally, but I think it looks better than the movie costume. At least in the comics they are smart enough to put a red belt down there to break up all that blue.

Yes actually, it was iconic and was just Superman. It's not like i despise the new costume but it doesn't feel like the Superman i loved and grew up with. Admittedly it has to do with more than just his costume, the New52 Superman i just don't see as MY Superman, the guy i wanted to be when i was a little kid and still aspire to be as :)

No, not really. It's not like all the images of Superman with red trunks from the first 73 years of his existence are gone. They will always be around for people to enjoy, if you're into that. That goes for Batman's lost trunks, Wolverine's too, etc. Those countless images aren't going anywhere. Modern superheroes just don't wear them like that anymore.

I don't miss them that much, but overall I prefer the previous design. Mainly though, I wish the New 52 suit was a little more similar to the classic design in other aspects, such as the boots and neckline.

i see the new 52 Superman as a different way of telling a story. the new 52 suits cool with its morphing ability but its not superman. Same with the smallville season 11 suit its more the eraicator then supes but its still awesome in its own way. but to me the true superman suit is the Christopher Reeveish Gary Frank Superman suit from secret origin and superman: brainiac.

The lack of underpants was my favorite part of the new costume. I intuited the new costume as "same exact costume, but without underpants" so I thought it was a slam dunk. It was only afterwards I noticed there are differences to the costumes aside from the lack of underpants, and that is where it gets hairy. But so far I feel positively about all of the differences.

If anything it is more jarring how young Superman looks on some of the covers. I actually thought it didn't look like Superman anymore. And it wasn't even because of the costume, now how about that.

No. The thing is this is a common trend, Batman's are gone as are too, Sentry seemed to lose his as did Wolverine. It is an outdated cheesy look. It is not horrible, but once they were removed, I thought it looked cool. How many DC and Marvel characters still have the briefs outside the custom? Did Magneto lose his?

ah, I actually thought they do it so new readers won't notice the change.

Also I noticed at least one pic of pre-new52 Superman where the artist shadowed the red underpants as if to hide them.
