Poll Did anyone you know become a Superman fan after MoS? (86 votes)
My little cousin is now a Superman fan end loves the Superboy shirt I gave him. I expect a lot of zingers and neck snapping jokes (well mostly by me)
Character » Superman appears in 18942 issues.

I was somewhat liked Superman but MOS put him in my top 10.
Glad to have you on board
I don't know him, but it know of him: Zachary Snyder!
... wut?
Yes, but it was mostly due to the fact that they hated his costume and they didn't think he could fight.
Man of Steel rewarded them with both.
It saddens me that that's the Superman a whole generation of kids will know and look up to.
As Kevin Smith said, he's an icon that a company was built on like Mickey Mouse but just like Mickey Mouse people stopped giving a f**k about the character. Superman fans will still be Superman fans even if they hate this movie, but this movie made more Superman fans as a positive.
@jaken7: I prefer Man of Steel Superman to Reeve's Superman, so I'm not too upset.
Reeve's Superman made people think Superman never told a lie and was a one dimensional character.
If only we could find someone who could create a balance between MoS and Reeve/Routh we'd be sitting pretty.

Don't forget that he got his way by bringing back Lois by time traveling
No Idk anyone who become a fan afterwords.
Don't worry, we got other movies to work with, to hopefully to find that middle ground

Most of my none comic fan friends became fans of superman. They all asked me for jump on point so I suggested some pre 52 titles and some new 52 titles. Most of my friends also loved the movie and found it to be one of the best. A lot of them compared it to the avengers and called it the film of 2013.

This......Well the movie is somewhat enjoyable, there is a lot to hate. Characters are straight up out of character: Pa Kent wanting to let children die, Lois Lane's really bad one liners, and err umm Superman snapping someones neck. It would be Hitler himself and Clark should never do such a thing.
Reeve's Superman made people think Superman never told a lie and was a one dimensional character.
Umm....being honest and morally sound does not make you 1 dimensional. Heck having the whole Clark/Superman alone is more character then we have seen from Cavil.
Thats called Smallville. A bunch of the props were homages to Reeves Superman universe (even the actors were guest stars), but Clark also killed on occasion, but once he became Superman he stopped. He grew up. You can't inspire hope by snapping necks.

IDK about you but Superman should get attention, and be cared for. And in a way respectful to the character. 4
@allstarsuperman: he's not supposed to be morally sound, he's supposed to grow with us. And yes, being morally sound is a bit 1D. You're good because you're good, no chance of corruption or character development. Someone said that the Jor-El orders gave him another dimension, but Jor-El was just a loud mouth.
Superman's actions had 0 consequences in that movie.
As far as the mash-up, I don't want a Smallville type Easter egg mash-up. I want Cavill's modern interpretation, not Reeve\Routh's hokey dokey routine, but with the heroism that Reeve\Routh displayed. Cavill is the first Superman that ever made me think Superman was a powerful man capable of powerful things, he just needs to make me believe he's a symbol of hope now.
I prefer the Pa Kent heart attack scene too.
His analogy is spot on and aligns with what Max Landis said about people loosing interest in the character after his death and return. And he fact that his last 3 movies before MoS were duds also does not help. Also his animated series in the 90's didn't sway many boy in an age of DBZ.

No, I want him to get tossed aside and become Batman's side kick. (sarcasm)
I already liked Superman but MoS caused me to start picking up more Superman comics.
I don't have a whole lot of friends that are into CBM for some reason, or have seen MOS... they all love TDK movies but that's about it.
@allstarsuperman: he's not supposed to be morally sound, he's supposed to grow with us.
No. No. No. Superman IS morally sound. He was RAISED morally sound. His parents ARE morally sound. He doesn't need to grow with us. He is not Spider-Man, he is not any of the robins. We aren't supposed to relate to him. We are supposed to want to be him. Strive to be better like him. He isn't a normal man, he is a SUPERman.

Just throwing it out there. Europe has way more fans of Disney characters like Mickey and Donald than USA. Maybe the american audience doesn't care but there are others who do.
Also as clever as Landis tries to sound, he doesn't know much about the character. His job on the digital title made it clear that he doesn't get Superman down to his basic levels.
Tons of people. Virtually every one of my students, various members of the faculty, dozens from my church, I actually have only ever heard very small complains about it in real life. The internet has been a different story.

For this particular film, for this story that they have decided to tell, @superguy1591 is correct. The same can't be said for Pre-52 Superman or Allstar Superman but Kal-El, as shown in this film franchise, is supposed to grow with us.
Yeah, me. I have always known of and had basic knowledge of superman but I was never an actual fan of him. Injustice actually sparked my interest in comic characters (That and random battles on CV I stumbled upon with google) but MOS actually made me have interest in Superman. Without Injustice I probably wouldn't have watched MOS and without MOS I probably wouldn't have ended up liking Superman much. So yeah, me.
@allstarsuperman: I think you're misunderstanding what I mean by morally sound, that's my bad. I mean in a sense of him being flawless, not him being a bad man.
My roommates and a bunch of my friends not only started reading Superman comics because of the movie and my mom started watching Smallville and even went as far as the buy all of the seasons.
@squalleon why didn't u like Landis' work on the adventures of Superman when he confronted Joker in Metropolis?
No one I know became a Superman fan after. But to be fair the number of people I know can be counted on one hand.
@squalleon why didn't u like Landis' work on the adventures of Superman when he confronted Joker in Metropolis?
At the beginning I thought it would be a funny two parter and I was excited for it. Then I read it as a whole. Superman lacked ANY kind of characterazation, Landis spammed us with the idea that Superman is "vague" to excuse himself for not knowing how to write Superman. Superman DOES have a no kill code, as opposed to what Landis thinks.
The thing about Landis is that Death and Return of Superman made him go viral, he never cared about Superman(and if he says otherwise I don't believe him), he only uses Superman, either in youtube or writing a comic to go viral again. He doesn't care about the character and that can be seen from his work on him.
I have to say I laughed my @ss of in the first part, so I excused the writing because of the humor but reading it as a whole, I have to say it is horrible.
I don't know many people who became Superman fans...he isn't that popular amongst my friends, but certainly the Comic Vine has been far more hostile to the film than the general public, which is predictable as you generally only have devoted and passionate fans on here who have very strong views on how Superman should be portrayed!!
I was starting to introduce DC to my kids before the movie.
I stopped after that.
.... it's the only one
And they never asked for more.
They technically have no more even if they wanted to, which I call BS. Everyone and their mother (@rogueshadow's by the sounds of it) is gonna go see BvS.
Terrible movie to be introduced to Superman mythology.
In parallel they loved Avengers, IM etc...
And they read more and more Marvel Comics.
@saint_wildcard: I don't understand any part of your answer. Probably a generational issue. For the part I hope I understood, my kids could have asked more DC comics after finishing the ones I bought before going to see MoS with them. They didn't.
MoS was the worst movie ever for people with no knowledge of Superman. And inadequate for children.
They enjoyed Avengers and other Marvel movies and now regularly reading Marvel.
For me MoS was a total failure.
i did i liked him but he was never in my favs. I saw every trailer and every tv spot and the movie and now i read every superman book and am looking for past stories.
I always liked the idea of Superman but never really read any of his stuff. After Man of Steel (which I thoroughly enjoyed by the way) I started reading some Superman comics and now Superman is my 2nd favourite comic book character (after Green Lantern). I've been reading some of the "classics" like All-Star and For All Seasons, and since Geoff Johns and JRjr took over I'm reading the Superman monthly.
Man of Steel was not bad. The first half, before the long, explosive fight scenes, was an incredible Superman film in my opinion. It was the second half that was the problem.
So yeah, Man of Steel made me into a Superman fan. It wasn't perfect but I liked it and without it I might never have discovered the wonderful world of Superman comics.
Well, recently I saw the son of my neighbors in MOS t-shirt plus there is MOS poster in his room. Next time I see him I’ll ask about it.
… Niece of my couz, probably. When she with her parents visited us, we watcher MOS together. Her reaction was “Wow, so cool”, “He is so much stronger than Iron Man”, talked me into buying several MOS-themed souvenirs and made me read her some of my S-comics’ collections (she liked SM/WW the most). When they were leaving, I heard how she was chewing her father to buy her that series from now on.
