@modernww2fare: I mean regular punches. If you watch during the Brainiac (Luthor) fight, the impact of Clark's hits have a distinct supersonic design. I don't think it's just an animation thing since I never noticed it with other characters including WW.

His strongest one was probably closer to hypersonic or somewhere in between.

Cool thread. Don't want to ruin in but Superman from the DC Animated Movies is above this. Hopefully people will stop low balling DC Animated Characters.

Because it had limits and they were well used in the writing.

Also it help to him to go beyond his limits and make him more heroic and more human, the important aspects.

@never_give_up: which DC Animated movie? He's different in each one

Superman/Batman Apocalypse, Superman/Batman Public Enemies, Superman Unbound, All Star Superman and him being the most impressive in Superman vs The Elite. Even though he has insane feats in the others such as surviving a supernova in Superman Unbound.

Character-wise, yeah, he was better in STAS. But he had REALLY weak moments there too, like getting his ass kicked by a cop in a helicopter:

To be fair, there are plenty of comic writers who have succeeded in making Superman a relatable yet inspirational human character whilst also being a mighty alien powerhouse too. It's not impossible to strike a balance, though I do agree the characterisation of the DCAU Superman was pretty good. And personally I think they balanced Superman's power level and characterisation well in Season 2 of Justice League and JLU.

    This

I remember the executive producers, writers and other crew of Justice League admitting in an interview that they relied too much on the same formula for establishing how powerful the villain was. Namely said villain owning Superman in battle. They managed the villain's threatening status and Superman's power quite well after Season 1.

Hmm yeah the EMH Avengers do seem more powerful than the DCAU Justice League. An ironic turn of events considering the power discrepancy in the comic book versions.

They had one thing in common though. Both DCAU Supes and EMH Thor, despite the power difference, had some equally embarassing low showings like Thor getting owned by Cap when he first appeared and Batman judo-throwing Superman.

It was Justice Lord Superman and Doomsday's combined punch impact which caused those shockwaves. It was a joint feat, Superman didn't do it himself.
