I know this is a strange question, but can he use his x-ray vision to see through his own eyes, even when they're closed?
Superman
Character » Superman appears in 18886 issues.
Sent to Earth as an infant from the dying planet Krypton, Kal-El was adopted by the loving Kent family and raised in America's heartland as Clark Kent. Using his immense solar-fueled powers, he became Superman to defend mankind against all manner of threats while championing truth, justice, and the American way!
Can Superman see through his own eyelids?
don't think so. a better question: does he have to make a conscious decision to not use it because it is always on or the other way around?
@comicstooge: It not on all the time he can turn it off and on
if he can xray himself i don't see why not.
This makes the most sense...but he's never really needed a reason to see through his eyelids.
LOL! . . . . yes . . . . what @BaneStrokeLoboGrundyBatArrow said
I reallt dont undertsand what X-ray has to do with this. An eye can watch in one direction at the time to see through his own eyes would mean he could see in more than one direction at the time or move his eyes 180/360 degrees or need some kind or help to get his vision turn the other way. Using an X-Ray on a mirro would most likely mean he X.ray the mirror what is behind him.

because anytime he looked through an object he called it his x-ray vision, this poster was curious if he closed his eyes and used his x-ray vision could he see through them, that's all.....and unless his eye lids are made of lead I don't see why he couldn't he can see through his own skin so what's stopping him from this.
I say yes. Lead is the only thing impervious to his X Ray vision. Just like he can burn himself with his heat vision, I think he can see through himself with x ray vision.
It depends on the density of his body, if his nigh invulnerability is a result of his skin becoming very, very dense then it is possible that he cannot see through himself.
I don't think so, in one of the early new52 action comics it was mentioned that his whole body is x-ray opaque. So his body is super dense.
@guttridgeb: He's looked through his own body though but that was pre new 52
Technically, as he can see through everything except lead, he should be able to see through lead. But, then, is it really practical to see through your eye-lids when you want to sleep? Oh yeah, he doesn't need to! Then some of his bodily functions are quite superfluous, don't you think?

This is what I was going to say. But somebody above proposed that he can x-ray himself, something that I admit I have not seen.
@kal_smahboi: one occasion ,in all star superman he looks at his own sells to see them bursting, my memory could be wrong though on that one, but he takes a look at them and says they look like tiny fire works.
Later on when Lex copies his powers the first thing he does is look at himself, and then has that Epiphany how everything is connected.
@w0nd: Darn, that's right. Also, the Superman Secundus project was only able to code Superman's DNA with his help, implying that he could extract cells and see into them when they couldn't.
