i've read a few more respected superman stories recently (doomsday, whatever happened..., all seasons, last son etc...) and have really started enjoying his character, after never having read any before.

out of the new 52 super titles, which have been the best... and why? really wanna start reading one or a couple, but can't afford to get all right now.

as far as i know it's just, superman, action comics, superboy, supergirl, right?

    thaaaaanks! :D

Going to go with AC, JL, and the Lantern comics.

The lanterns are great for because I've never really gotten into one of their series before.

I also like Batman Dark Knight , Wonder Women and Superman (no surprise)

I find the new Titans very jumpy, things happen in different comics (Superboy and Titans), and one issue made reference to a fight that takes place in a another series' issue that has not even come out yet (I think a 3rd series now being linked). I'm confused!

    1. I see you like laughing
    2. It's pretty fun! Kinda weird in comics nowadays.....
    3. DUDE!! I'm a geek/nerd so understanding comics is easy pie for me, but by first time a comic makes me say "WTF is going on here?!? I'm so f*cking confused " and that's bad coming for a nerd I could make it clear re-reading all stuff but I'm lazy and it isn't worth.

thanks for all the advice guys. i was thinking superman, but looks like action comics is the better one, so i'll get that instead. prob pick up the first trade and go from there :)

what about supergirl and superboy, have they been any good?

i pre-ordered the first teen titans as i like red robin and had heard good things, but it's sounding like you get more out f it if you read superboy as well...?

I've only read the first 5 of all of them, Supergirl seems like the most solid of the bunch to me. Action Comics started off well, then became less interesting as it went on (imo).

I'd only read Superman from issue 7 onwards. The new creative team is doing a good job on Superman and the first 6 issues were pretty disappointing story wise. Pretty formulaic stories of Superman battling aliens then fighting a cloned nanite version of himself. Nothing great about the first 6 issues but 7 is a step in the right direction.

If you can only get one of the Super titles, get Action Comics. It's probably the best one.

Second best would be Supergirl, lots of fun and intrigue.

Haven't read Superboy, so not sure about that one.

Superman is okay but not great. Giffen and Jurgens are starting to turn things around but I hear Giffen is leaving soon to work on Legion of Superheroes. I suspect his absence will hurt the Superman stories.

I doubt Giffens is leaving. He can certainly write more than 1 title. Even if he is drawing LoSH, im sure he has time to script and co plot superman

Sueprboy is really good, I've been enjoying it. Supergirl isn't bad either. Not great, but not bad. Action Comics is by far better than Superman, although Superman is picking up a little bit now, with the new creative team.

True, my liking of the series is why I'm frustrated at the delays. But the delays themselves are beyond annoying and unprofessional on Jim Lee's part and even on Scott Snyder's part to some extent. He's tweeted about beginning work on Wytches and a new Batman event in October yet hasn't finished a series he started a year ago. Still, most of the blame is clearly on Lee here.

@thecowwasdelirious: Definitely, Superman acts like he should on a global scale and is a lot more philosophical in how he thinks he should act in the world. Something that's lacking even from Pak's title who does write Superman as a nice friendly guy but leaves a lot to be desired in the story department.

I've always liked how Lee draws Superman so stoic but I see your point, some fluidity can always help express a scene's potential. Still, Lee's art is damn gorgeous and well rendered.

I have to agree with @lvenger, taking away the delays (which in itself is difficult to do so), I have actually thoroughly enjoyed the series and feel, in my opinion, that it is the best depiction, or at least my favourite depiction, of Superman since the new 52 begun, with the only other Superman depiction really coming close to Snyder/Lee's Superman is Morrison's Superman in AC.

P.s. I'm still seriously annoyed that issue 7 of Unchained only comes out in around a months time. What even..

@enigmalantern: Agreed, subtracting the delays out of the series' quality is hard to do. We expect books to come out at least on a monthly basis in the comic book industry so delays like this really damper how well received a book is.

@thecowwasdelirious: Oh he really does. That's what made All Star Superman the perfect Superman story in its art as well as its story.

My favorite perception of Superman in the New 52 is Snyder/Lee's Superman & Morrison's Superman in AC.

I wonder why DC won't try to make that stick, but reading Pack's AC it seem like they're deciding to go back to the more friendly approach.

Why can't DC just find a balance between a Fun/Cool Edgy Superman that's kindhearted, but who's willing to put you in your place if needed??? As of today I still prefer to read a younger Superman because it's a little more refreshing... Just bring back that heroic feeling that's Packs doing in AC, while maintaining that edgy feeling from Snyder's Unchained & Morrison's AC.

I believe that Superman always had that edgy feeling to him which was loss over the years and hence why this generation find the character boring.

Action Comics and Superman go back and forth, but don't count out Superman/Wonder Woman. Tomasi can write great character moments.

I think if you count them from the beginning of the new 52, Action Comics is the best. But even that has a weak period between issues 19-24 and I personally don't like the direction since Doomed. I recommend Superman from issue 32+, definitely shapes up to be the best and most consistent title, with a intriguing story that becames even more intriguing as it goes.

Action Comics and Superman go back and forth, but don't count out Superman/Wonder Woman. Tomasi can write great character moments.

Considering Tomasi's run hasn't even begin I wouldn't count it as a valid recommendation :P

If we’re judging from the beginning of New-52 till current date, then AC would the best book (despite its period of mediocrity between Morrison and Pak).

Couple of weeks ago I would have doubted which title should be second best – SM/WW or Unchained. Now I know – Soule’s SM/WW > SM Unchained.

Superman book has really bad history, but not so long ago Johns started doing good there (at least I heard so), so maybe this one soon became one of the best.
