I had been saying for months that the inspiration for Affleck's Batman will be from The Dark Knight Returns:
Superman
Character » Superman appears in 18942 issues.
Sent to Earth as an infant from the dying planet Krypton, Kal-El was adopted by the loving Kent family and raised in America's heartland as Clark Kent. Using his immense solar-fueled powers, he became Superman to defend mankind against all manner of threats while championing truth, justice, and the American way!
Batman vs Superman officially inspired by DKR
That article really doesn't prove anything 'official'. Yeah, they introduced the announcement of the movie with the quote from DKR, but I assume that is only because that is the most famous altercation between Superman and Batman.
According to that article, someone asked Snyder if BMvsSM would be a "direct adaptation of Dark Knight Returns", which is a stupid question because the context in which DKR takes place is completely different than this movie. Batman in DKR is a senior citizen at least 60 years old and the world has turned into a dystopia while he was retired. Batman in this movie is early middle aged and even if he is retired at the beginning, the world is just like our world, not the hyper corrupt and decadent society of DKR (yes, our world is corrupt and decadent, but not tha much). Batman was also the undisputed main character of DKR, while this movie will either have Superman as the lead or have Bats and Supes as co-lead.
As for Superman's character. That would have to be completely different in the movie than in DKR. Many Superman fans are pretty offended by Supes' portrayal in DKR as just some governemnt stooge. Based on his actions in MoS, this Superman will be anything but a government lacky.
We now know that Lex Luthor will be the villain of the movie and guess what, he wasn't in DKR.
At most, there may be a few elements from DKR and elements from several different comic storylines, just as MoS wasn't a direct adaptation of any one Superman origin story, but a mixture of elements from many.
This will never be good news.
This!!........smh.
This will never be good news.
Actually scaring me.
We Superman fans should've known that Superman was going to get the short end of this "team-up'. A Superman book based of The Dark Knight Returns...yeah.
@sandman_: @superguy1591: @alertcircuit: You guys should be happy. DKR is a masterpiece.
@frozen: So is Kingdom Come, a Superman story involving an aged DC universe that treats the trinity with respect. Would be nuts to adapt that story.
Still not seeing what the big deal (and what this thread doing in Superman’s forum).
So, Ben's Batman will be based on TDKR. How is that relevant to Superman? If Snyder will announce that entire BM vs SM (or however this movie will be named) would be direct adaptation of TDKR then that would be cause for concern, but, well, it wasn’t confirmed…
Please people need to look up the words, inspired and influenced, they're not actually going to use that story but the character of Ben Affleck's Batman. And we know Superman has no involvement with the government by the end of Man of Steel, so he won't be used by the government. Yes Synder like Miller's work but I doubt he'll use it, he's a fanboy he probably done his research.
Maybe for batman but not for the story. Its a batman story that superman has a small part in and this is supposed to be a superman movie right?

Matter of opinion, it's a nice story but I don't like how the characters are portrayed.
Snyder has already said that if Supes and Bats actually went at it, Supes could destroy him with a flick of the finger, so there will have to be many factors to try and even the playing field.
