Sent to Earth as an infant from the dying planet Krypton, Kal-El was adopted by the loving Kent family and raised in America's heartland as Clark Kent. Using his immense solar-fueled powers, he became Superman to defend mankind against all manner of threats while championing truth, justice, and the American way!
It was a decent issue, but not as great as the fist 3 before it. I'm hoping this arc end with a bang, cus if it does it will be my favorite Arc done by Pak ever.
But yes, you did said that it was Xa-Du from the start, and you never wavered. So pat yourself in the back.
I found it funny how Superman fortress simply blew up out of the nothing, and Xa-Du who had his suit destroyed countless times, simply manages to build another one out of nothing.
And how much you wanna bet that conveniently after Superman finishes him off once again, that Kandor is gonna fall back into the micro-stasis and both Kal and Kara are gonna lose their change to gain back what was left of Krypton.
@lvenger: @heavenlydarkdragon: I am glad that if nothing else, Pak gave more thought to him being Superman's "joker". What with Xa Du being on a similar power level, and being his very first super villain.
Also hopefully he won't just stop appearing after this arc is over.
@2cool4fun: Eh I found Pak made a rather loose and tenuous connection for Xa-Du being Superman's 'Joker.' If anything, Xa-Du was acting more like Superman's 'Hush' IMO. But the main problem of this arc is the thought that Superman needs a Batman style villain in his rogues gallery, when it's criminally underrated, diverse and powerful enough as it is. He doesn't need to copy Batman's rogues, there's enough of Batman in New 52 Superman as it is.
@2cool4fun: Xa-Du was a lot more calculated and meticulous than a Joker type villain. And attacking Superman's loved ones reeks of Hush more than Joker since, up until Snyder's run, Joker wasn't specified as knowing Batman's secret identity.
@lvenger: Hmm, you have a point. The way The Joker has been acting in the New 52 I completely forgot about his original style.
Honestly, I'm open to this new Xa Du, because he has barely existed in over 50 (something) years of his existence before the New 52, and Morrison set him up for good stuff, and so far, Pak has used him really well. I'm just hopping he gets built up into a worthy Superman villain over time, instead of left on the side to be forgotten again.
@2cool4fun: I suppose giving Xa-Du a role in further Superman stories than Morrison's seminal Action Comics run is a marked improvement. But I didn't feel this story needed to be about Superman's Joker myself.
