i felt i had to make this thread , this rumor is too much
he lifted that weight on the moon ,i.e 1/6 of the normal gravity, i.e 33.33 quintillion tons

pls if you are a superman fan dont cut my throat, its just a piece of info

EDIT:okay every one i am sorry i didnt notice the equivalent thing take what i said with a grain of salt

suns?

#3 Posted by PrinceIMC (5357 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

Though it all depends if they meant weight or mass. Weight is dependent on gravity, mass is not.

#4 Posted by Kal'smahboi (2780 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

The quotation is "You're now pushing against the equivalent of 200 quintillion tons, Superman."
The word equivalent makes me think he did.

Actually if you tried to push off a mass of 100 tons you'd move away from it, it wouldn't move away from you.

@higher_evolutionary: Everything looked fine like it would under earth's gravity, If  gravity was 1/6 of earth then everything(those scientists) would be floating when ever they try to move.
they were inside the space station so i guess somehow  gravity was same as on earth.

This.

All Star Superman lifted 200 quintillion tons.

@higher_evolutionary:

He was:

1. Using one hand

2. Not using all of his strength to do it

3. Because he is a kryptonian his strength increases with age(while under a yellow sun), meaning he would grow even stronger:his strength capacity is limitless.

#15 Posted by PowerHerc (50967 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

He lifted it alright.

And he did it with one arm!

#16 Posted by majestic99 (8638 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

@PowerHerc: One word for Superman: awesome!( did you see my scan?)

#17 Posted by PowerHerc (50967 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

@majestic99: Yes, I saw it.

I also saw it and bought it when All-Star Superman first came out.

Awesome only begins to describe Superman. :D

@PowerHerc: I'm buying the comic soon, along with "Superman New Krypton."

Cool.

I have the All-Star Superman trade and animated movie, too. It's a good story albeit with a sad ending.

not really, more like a prequel to the one million saga of how golden superman was born
but it was a really memorable story, top 5

Yeah, equivalent. The threads purpose is done, warrants a lock.

#23 Posted by ReVamp (22561 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

@majestic99: Badass Av.

I meant that the quote says "equivalent tons" meaning it actually was the 200 quintillion tons.

#24 Posted by majestic99 (8638 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

@ReVamp:

1.Thanks:) It's Vulcan.

2. I already posted the scan showing All Star Superman did lift it. So, you are right: his question has been answered so this thread should be locked.

@majestic99: Am I the only one loving the colorful jacket? lol...

P.S. Course, he's in a room that gravity looks quite normal, meaning earth standards. Don't "earthify" fiction! Let it flow, let it be a little bit out of the normal and stop checking every little detail (or stop reading comics and start reading physics -not blaming physics- ).

Greatest Superman story ever written. How's that?
#36 Posted by Walker696 (985 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

after all these years does it even matter anymore lol, between this and the Hulk 100 Billion ton mountain thing I'm really starting not to like high tier characters anymore. I don't see any point in them fighting anymore they should be able to flick everything and kill it lol. I'm sorry I'm just venting.

O yea he did pretty much do it with one hand behind his back, besides 200 quintillion tons or 33.3 quintillion tons, either way doesn't matter he's still the strongest if not one of the strongest heroes in exsistence

He lifted 200 quintillion tons, was able to travel from Earth to the Sun in a matter of moments, and was able to go from the Milky Way Galaxy to Alpha Centauri and back, in seconds.

@majestic99:

the question was not if all star superman did lift it or not it was about the moon's gravity, since it was performed on the moon

its amazing, despite all the hype it was one of the most memorable superman stories ever written, it had the best blend of emotional moments, action, humor, drama, powerful story, and very accessible even if you are new to comics

Go buy it now !!

A sun is a gas ball of burning hydrogen. How would one lift a lighter than air gas bubble? I bet I could lift 400 quintillion suns. lol

#44 Posted by majestic99 (8638 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

@gravitypress: I think he means weight wise.

#45 Posted by Vance Astro (88689 posts) - 1 year, 4 months ago - Show Bio

You can't say he didn't do it.He's pushing up on something and the dialogue says that's what he's doing.All-Star Superman is used in damn near no threads so I don't really get why this matters...He did lift 200 quintillion tons though.

@majestic99: But if a sun is composed of gas that weighs less than air they would be in effect weightless.

Please tell me you're not being serious. Weight is a magnitude of force. The weight of a large blue whale is 1.9e6 N, the sun's gravitational force on earth is 3.5e22 N. Good luck with that.

The center of sun is composed of rapidly moving hydrogen and helium, moving so fast that they are tens of millions of degrees. Although you think at that temperature it's solid, because the molecules are moving so fast it's a plasma. It's super dense:so in a sense it has weight.

@The Man of Yesteryear: @majestic99: I stand corrected.
