#1: Alternate Universes. They're confusing okay? I don't need a Earth 39-B8 just give me my one earth with its set of superheroes.

#2: Convoluted story lines where you have to read 100 issues just to know what the f!@# is going on. (I'm looking at you DC) What? No Superman killed Luthor in issue 64943 but then he came back to life in 65473 with a serum that superman shit out his ass in 65078 but hid in his fortress of solitude only to be found by Lex's cousin Randy who was introduced way back in issue 3 and had a vendetta against superman cause he saved his boss who he hated from committing suicide in issue 6456. And he knows where Supermans fortress of solitude is because he read it in Supermans journal in issue 7888. Whew.

#3: Changing artists in the middle of a story arc. It just bothers the hell outta me.

#4: Milking a story arc because its popular. I think all that needs to be said here is the clone saga. Yeah.

    And finally...

NUMBER 5: Throwing in a terrible little story at the end of a comic so they can bump the price up to 3.99. ...................Greedy Bastards.

And there you have it. The 5 things that piss me off in comics. Agree? Hate my guts because you think I have no clue what I'm talking about and that I should go back to kindergarden? COMMENT

    Till next time,

I love Alternate Universe, especially the darker ones like Brian Azzarello's Joker.

@dementedtheclown: That's not really an alternate universe, just a different take on the same universe.

So is it the comics in general you hate? or is it Superman comics you hate? because only seem to use Superman as a reference point!

@The Sadhu: It was just stuff in comics general that I don't like. I mentioned the Spider-Man clone saga and also Marvel are really the only ones that add things at the end of comics to bum p up the price to 3.99

    @The Sadhu:

he did bring up the clone sage (which everyone knows is Spider-man's nom de plum in comics.)

    @Prims777:
But I do have to agree with you. I do get sick of the alternate universe stories. Rehashing old stories does stink. The rest of it I don't really care one way or the other.

I noticed the clone saga reference but it didn't register till after I posted.

You make valid points... I personally don't mind the alternate universe stuff but I am getting tired of all the retelling of old story lines!

Most alternate universes are a different take on the same universe. It may not be an Official Universe, but it's definitely not the same universe.

@dementedtheclown: When I said alternate universes I meant ones that run parallel to the normal universe not one shot alternate universes like say superman secret identity or the ultimate marvel universes. I mean stuff like the different universes in say Final Crisis.

Totally agree about alternate universes. After clones, they're the worst comic book trope in my book.

agreed to pretty much all expect for number 1 its realy not that confusing at all. and yeah having a shit ton of issues for a story arc is realy stupid and pointless i mean realy the most issues a story arc should have is say if its a one shot typ of thing then 13 issues at the MOST.

@Theworldbreaker: I especially hate how DC don't give a little paragraph at the beginning of an issue to say what's going on. It makes it really hard to get into DC stuff unless you start from issue 1.

I agree with pretty much each point, except maybe the one about alternate universes depending on how its done. I agree that it can be confusing.

    I definetley agree with #'s 1 and 2.
Alternate Realities in the regular storylines are a stupid idea imo, just keep it to off shot issues like the All-star series and ultimate lines.
However, what I hate the most is your #2. Its the reason why i sometimes just skip big comic event crossovers. They always have to have something like Batman: Final Crisis #1 and so on. You miss parts of the story which is really annoying. Marvel is just as guilty as DC when it comes to doing this.

    1. Alternate Realities are ok... If they never team up with mainstream. Seriously. That's confusing.

    2. This is why I can't read DC

    3. I've never come across that, but that would piss me off too

    4. Agreed. The Death of Captain America was only supposed to be a short arc. Then Quesada was like "No, do it. It'd be cool"

    5. That'd only make me angry if the story sucks.

Number 3 isn't a really fair point unless your an artist yourself putting out at least 22 pages a month on deadline. If so then send your CV into Marvel or DC.....

    1. Too many alternate universes is a pain, I don't mind a few but trying to keep track of them is so annoying.
    2.  Convoluted story lines, what bugs me is when a writer references something obscure in the past but does nothing to bring new readers up to speed.
    3.  Changing artists half way through a story arc, big pet peeve of mine too.  It makes the story feel disconnected especially when the artists style is completely different.  If its subtle and not too noticeable its not so bad.
    4.  Dragging a story line on is taxing on the wallet, especially those that crossover into other books.  One that comes to mind is Knightfall that dragged on into Kight Quest and Knightsend and into every Bat related book.
    5.  I don't mind the stories at the end of some comics.

    1. Alternate universes allows different situations to happen, that couldn't happen in the main one.

    2. Have to agree on this one. Especially when they throw the story line around 10 different series and you ain't sure what you have to get next.

    3. Can't really comment on this one. It was freaky when they once changed three artists in one comic book tough...

    4. I actually very like clone saga, so they can go and make as much comics for it as they want.

    5. Sometimes these stories are actually good. Like Ghost Rider and Spidey team up and some more stuff.

I'm not going to speak to all of the complaints but to me alternate universes allow for readers to get their "what if?" fix. Also, due to mainstream continuity having to always revert alternate universes allow writers to fully play and build on big game changing events. Take the Ultimates for example; they've been able to continually build on the story without having to bring certain characters back to life which to the reader can be quite fun and interesting.
