About his fighting skill.....is he trained in any forms of Earth's martial arts? Are there other forms of fighting that he knows from other worlds? Or has he created his own style?

How he would compare to other fighters in DC?

Ugh, I really don't want to look for it but this has been tackled before. Superman as quite a bit of skill, he just doesn't use it much (since he really doesn't need it). He's not like Batman or anything, but he does know how to fight and is skilled at some Earth styles and some Kryptonian ones. I might go look for my post, it had a lot more detail.

The moves he pulled off in the first scan reminded me a lot of Captain America. Good scans.

Here is the post (and part of another from the same thread just for summary).

Superman was a Golden Gloves champ, has gotten some tips from Bruce (teaching him pressure points and various human fighting styles), trained with Diana, fought alongside warriors (including Diana) for 1,000 years (in battles that he couldn't just punch his way through), was trained by Mongul Jr, was a gladiator, mastered Kryptonian martial arts (physical and astral), has beaten the junk outta of Kobra (who is considered to be (by Batman, no less) one of the most dangerous martial artists in the world) without powers, had "internal"/"spiritual" training under one of Bruce's old teachers, trained with Japanese uber-Samurai, and has the mandatory combat training that everyone in the JLA gets. Extra info: Kal's also a natural acrobat and has flipped around, etc without his powers (his Kryptonian physiology gives him greater balance and flexibility) but it's not something that has really been explored. And yeah, most writers don't know any of that, but it's still there. His fighting ability exists, even if it isn't used much.

He's a master of an alien fighting system, he's a champion boxer, he trains with one of the foremost fighters on his planet and has trained with some of the guys who trained him, he's beaten someone who is considered one of the best fighters ever (and has beaten Batman), he's battled for a thousand years straight (not just that he's been fighting for thousands of years, but for a thousand years he was fighting enemies almost every moment he was awake), and more.

Ok. That was unexpected.

I'm surprised they don't use this more in the comics.

Why?  With his power set what would be the point?

Weird comparison coming up:

It's like a well put together baseball team. You got everybody in every position, and then you realize you don't have a shortstop.

.....

Did that make any sense?

Superman sucks in fighting skills. When he got thrown back intime an lost his powers he got beat by a caveman.  He fights more like a brute. He will use his mind yeah but he's like strong guy. Then when leech comes along strong guy looses it all and can't do much. Superman needs his powers.

No one is denying that he rely's on his powers alot but the information that Gambler and Buckshot have shown does show that he has the ability when required to utilise quite a good set of hand to hand skills.

Enough for me to understand, I hope.  Youre arguing for completeness of character, whether it's needed or not.  The argument could simply be why would Superman, who spends his life fighting against villains, not make himself as good as he can be in everything that would be necessary in his war against injustice?

Well I would substitute that the team wouldnt be bereft of a shortstop but would just have an average shortstop.  No allstar level player, like so many of the other players on the team, but clearly they have one.  That would be more in line with how Superman is usually shown and with the all star players at most of the other positions (all of the top tier powers he possesses), having a mediocre short stop (fighting ability) isn't really an issue at all.  In fact I would argue that it makes the character more believable.  He shouldnt be the best at everything, which he comes close to in all of his powers.  There should be some things that he is just average or slightly above, at.
