Superman battles Lex Luthor and Metallo in the finale to Secret Origins.

    The Good

Everything? Sometimes, I wish that would suffice, but it doesn't, nor will it ever. I'm a huge HUGE fans of Gary Frank's art on this, even moreso than Geoff Johns' writing, which is almost sacrilegious for me to say. A lot of people get bummed out by the retelling of their favorite character's origins, but in the defense of this book, it really needs it. Writing styles change over the years, and as great as it would be to go back in time and read the original origin story of Superman, wouldn't you like to see a more contemporary spin on it? I would, and did. This story itself is pretty simple, but takes all the elements of what's happened to the character over the years, and gives you glimpses into what's to come. We get a little of the people backing Superman, and him becoming the "beacon of hope" for the city. We get to see the start of the battle between Lex and Supe, and even the relationship between Lois and Supe, and a lot of that all comes from this single issue. I felt this was a great ending to a great series.

    The Bad

What's it been? Like 5 months? Sheesh! If I find something I love, I become incredibly impatient, and I've loved this story, so these past 5 months I've been checking over and over again when the book is coming out. After finishing the whole series, I would have rather seen this as an original graphic novel than a month to month book, and not just because of the delays, but because this book is a lot better in one sitting. The original solicit for this cover featured what look like to be a silhouette of Bizarro, yet there's no Bizarro in this issue. I was a little bummed out by that, unless I was tricked and this solicit came from somewhere else.

The Verdict 5/5 My Pick of the Week!

Yes, the wait for this book was pretty annoying, but you know what? It was worth it. This is NOT the place to start, since it's the end of the mini-series. You have one of two options: You can wait until December 21st to pick this book up in trade, or hunt down all the individual issues, but either way, this is one of my favorite Superman stories and a must read for fans. If you've never liked Superman, give this one a try. Highly Recommended.

Geoff Johns rocks.  This book is amazing.  I can't wait for the hardcover trade.  This is a must read for sure.

I really don't know what issue I left off on this...it's been so long, but I don't think I picked up #4 either. I WAS absolutely loving this, definitely going to have to dig up all the previous issues so I can read through the whole thing now that this is out.

No, this is just a retelling of his original origin...
There's an original graphic novel coming out soon, called Earth-One or Two or something like that which could be considered more of an Ultimate version...

No interlocking cover for this issue? Pretty weird that the first 5 form a larger image, but the 6th doesn't :(

I've only read the 1st Issue, and am just gonna wait for the TPB to finish it off.

But will this "Origin" story finally stick?  Will this be the be-all end-all Superman Origin story for the DC Unvierse?

At least for the next 7-10 years?  Considering the last Origin story lasted 3 years.

Or will DC re-write Superman's Origins again?

Will we see a "Superman - Final Crisis of The Man of Steel's Birthright of his Secret Origins"?

Lies! All of it just lies!!!

I agree with the review.  What a brilliant story.  It's like Mr. Johns took everything that we hold dear about Superman and gave it to us in six issues.

The only big change to Superman's mythology is the origin of Lex Luthor. It's very close to Birthright, but scaled back on some of the more outlandish stuff.

I sure hope that Geoff Johns does a Secret Origin story for more characters.  I would love to see a Flash: Secret Origin, or even a Martian Manhunter one.

Wait. It seems that this issue has two covers, one of which is the interlocking one. Dunno why DC is showing this one (the one in the article) more, since it's supposed to be the variant one...

It seriously took way too long for this issue to come out, but i must say it is a fitting end to this mini-series

Very enjoyable story. Nice and gets straight into some action in his early years which I think is the correct way to go about his origins.
I would have liked to see Clark younger talk with his father and the set up of the Fortress and thats completely left out. Wasnt to happy about that. Jor-EL is a big factor in who Superman is and they didnt even get into him.
But story wise and how everything comes together and how the characters are connected is awesome. I love what they did with the Parasite and Luthor. Luthor and John Corban with alittle bit of General Lane and his early disliking of Superman was Awesome and connects perfectly with New Krypton, Last Stand, and War of the Supermen. If you have no Superman comics and buy the secret origin, Superman/Brainiac, New Krypton, Last Stand, War of the Supermen. You will really enjoy how they go together.
Id say Secret Origins is a 9 out 10 and a must buy for Superman fans.

to pick up or not to pick up, that is the question. In trade maybe? Im afraid, saying this without having read any of this series, im afraid that its just another retelling of Supes.
