Superman: Last Stand of New Krypton #1
Here we are - at the middle of war. James Robinson & Supergirl's Sterling Gates brought to us an extraordinary comic book this week. Following the events of Superman: The World of New Krypton #12, Brainiac attacked the entire city of Kandor.
The issue begins with General Zod's monologue about his only defeat and smoothly transfers to the city streets where a desperate battle gains momentum. There we can see Kal-El & his Red Shard in action, battling against Brainiac's robots. And then the next pages simply staggering - General Zod has been waiting for this moment. With his KABOOM cannon he's trying to destroy Brainiac's spaceship, but instead kills his honorable warriors. In righteous indignation, Superman rushes to him with shouts and quits.
The next scene shows us Supergirl fighting through robots to her mother's house. After a short dialogue Alura flies away. Now we are again with Kal-El while he explains his plan. Brainiac's force field isn't solid, hit one side hard enough - the area one the exact opposite side of Brainiac's ship will be at its weakest. All he has to do is get to that far point in... one thousandth of a second! But we did not doubt that he will succeed ;)
And then again we're following Supergirl's adventures. It turns out that Big B has upgraded his warriors and they are now free to kill Kryptonians even with their new superpowers. It would be a very unpleasant ending for Kara but Mon-El & the new League of Superheroes appeared and, geez, there're KICKING ASS! After this crazy mash-up we see General Zod talking to his new "allies". After Mon-El's and Supergirls depature he commands to arrest Superboy and the LoS.
At the end we're back to Superman. When he finally gets to Brainiac someone shoots him by some spooky green light. When he turns, he sees Lex Luthor with the grin on his face. DUM DUM DUUUUUUM
Overall, I liked the story and the art was very good. If you have been watching/reading all the Superman's stories during the last 2 years - I will def recommend this one to you.
