How To Save Humanity
Clark Kent gets called to Kazakhstan by his old flame Callie Llewellyn where comes in contact with the dangerous Subjekt-17 and later on meets a powerful sorcerer named Arion who gives him an impossible ultimatum.
My Thoughts:This story arc is written by Kurt Buseik who puts Superman in quite the dilemma. I enjoyed the overall concept of this story even though it hasn't reached it's climax yet. Busiek has definitely laid the groundwork for an explosive and exciting story.
The appearance of this sorcerer named Arion had me excited. The proposition he gives Superman was "for mankind to live…you have to let civilization fall." Quite the foundation to write a compelling story around. Seeing Superman's response to this is the following issues should be awesome. I enjoy these type of "villains" who come at Superman in different ways and try to break him down. Those are the battles that will be remembered. I'm not saying that seeing Superman beat up on Subjekt17 wasn't exciting, but it doesn't have the same lasting effect as this dilemma Superman is in will.
The art is by Carlos Pacheco who is such a fantastic artist. I love his style and his work on this comic was so beautiful. There were so many amazing panels he constructed. He draws an amazing Clark Kent/Superman. The fight sequences were captured perfectly. The end of the world feel was there. I felt like I was watching a movie at times. Everything about the art was superb.
Definitely a great beginning to what is shaping up to be a classic Superman story arc. I highly recommend reading this. It's a lot different than your typical Superman comic but in a good way.
