#9: 'Birthright'
This segment of 'Birthright' was obviously inspired by the 1980 film Superman II. It was apparent in some things in previous issues, but is very apparent in this issue. The cover references the infamous General Zod line from that film, and inside we have a number of references culminating in a repeat of the scene where Superman lies apparently defeated and the citizens of Metropolis rally to take on the superpowered aliens with whatever's at hand.
Too bad it's not even close to being as good as that film. All the usual complaints apply, power-creep (Superman takes out a lock on a door with his heat vision from blocks away without damaging anything or anyone in between in the line of sight); bad art - in particular a screaming kid looks like something from the cartoon 'Rugrats'; plot holes (too numerous to name).
The one thing 'Birthright' #11 has going for it is fairly fast paced action, but that's not enough to save it.
