They are closer to being brothers than friends. And much like brothers they squabble from time to time but no matter what, they'll have each others backs.
They might be friends, but Bruce ALWAYS keeps a piece of Kryptonite in his utility belt...The supposed reason for this is just in case Supe ever goes outta control, but it makes me wonder if he keeps it just in case he could kick Supe's @$$ anytime he pissed hime off! :)
But at the end of Superman/Batman #49 you see just how much K Batman had stored up on his own, including the varietals. BUT, that does not necessarily mean that their relationship is based on suspicion. There is way too much evidence that they are like brothers (RedK brought up one instance, there are more in Superman/Batman #s 44, 28)
This little gem comes from Superman/Batman #33, and I think sums up the idea rather nicely.
they have a kinship that surpasses family . each respect one another, and fam members always squabb sups cant be batman but enys him and viceversa...sups is nothing without powers, and batmans everythang without powers.....
