Still Grounded...
Is it just me, or is this story dragging along nice and slow? Seven issues in, and Grounded still seems to be going nowhere. This is part five to the arc, which included two interlude filler issues. It really does seems as if Superman has no idea as to why he is doing what he's doing. In this issue, we see Superman walking by Iowa, while on the phone with Lois Lane, who for some reason is wearing a Tomb Raider inspired outfit. Lois is in Kansas investigating a case to write about in The Daily Planet when an explosion goes off on Lois' end. Superman of course shows up and stops it. Superman seems to be having a bit of a struggle with his beliefs in "truth, justice, and the American way." This could be a way to tie together what he went through with the event of New Krypton, which hasn't been referenced to what so ever, or it could just be mind control. Something that I though was actually a good thing in this issue was the small "falling out" of sorts between Lois and Clark. It makes sense because of how long he's been away and everything that's been happening, and also because it's something that happens with everyone in human life. This particualr issue was scripted by Chris Roberson, following JMS' plot. I don't know just how much of a difference it will make in the end that JMS isn't writing this title anymore, but I can say one thing for sure, this issue has been the best one out of the Grounded arc. I say this because, although we still have no idea where this could be heading, we do get some small developments unlike previous issues. With how this issue ends, things could turn a lot more interesting now. I want to read a big, epic Superman story about a towering menace, not about him touring the United States. The ending to this issue though, reminded me a little bit of All- Star Superman. I guess I could say I'm looking forward to the next issue only because of the last page, but I am not expecting something amazing.
