A scientific experiment turns all the kryptonite on Earth to iron, as Clark Kent moves from newspaper to television journalism.

    1. "Superman Breaks Loose" written by Denny O'Neil, penciled by Curt Swan and inked by Murphy Anderson. Superman helps with a Kryptonite-powered generator test, but something goes wrong and there's a massive explosion. But the explosion's side effect transforms all Kryptonite on Earth into ordinary iron. Good news for Superman - but was there also a downside? Reprinted in Action Comics #485, Superman in the Seventies, Superman: The Greatest Stories Ever Told #2, DC Comics Classics Library: Superman - Kryptonite Nevermore! #1.
    2. "Super-Turtle" gag strip by Henry Boltinoff.
    3. "Jor-El's Golden Folly" "The Fabulous World of Krypton" written by E. Nelson Bridwell, penciled and inked by Murphy Anderson. Reprinted in The Best of DC #40 & Superman: World of Krypton TPB.

    Notes:

    • The Julius Schwartz era begins with this issue.
    • First appearance of the backup feature "The Fabulous World of Krypton".
    • Both stories reprinted in Millennium Edition: Superman 233.
