    See No Evil 0

This issue manages to offer a credible threat for the Man of Steel without having it feel too contrived. He battles a monster that is invisible to all of his senses, but everyone else can see. From the people of Metropolis' perspective, it seems like Superman is just getting his ass handed to him. The citizens of the city play an important role in Superman's triumph over the villain and it's a great metaphor for Superman's relation to the public: without them, he's not the powerful symbol that h...

    Who's got the Kryptonite? 0

I'm trying to find something I like about this title, but I just can't. This'll include a few spoilers so stop if you want none.First thing that annoys me is the quote "You can't go home again." If we were talking about Superman in general it would be an apt line, but we're in a setting where he's talking about Krypton. Clark doesn't remember Krypton. He doesn't consider Krypton home and to make this in error more so is that the quote doesn't mean a physical place and Clark would know this as he...

I just don't care about old Superman 1

This may just be the issue that convinces me that I'm just not a fan of old Superman. Maybe it's Perez's writing. Or maybe Grant Morrison "tricked" me into thinking I'd like anyone else's take on Superman. It seems as though his take on what Superman should be is a series of fights with bad guys. And maybe that's what Superman is supposed to be. But it just seems a little too much like those old 1940s Superman cartoons I used to watch on VHS.I also had a hard time with the fact that Lois figures...

    Not Quite There Yet. 1

I'm sort of enjoying this new Superman, but I'm not entirely sold yet. The fight against an enemy he can't sense in any possible way was something I really liked and what really helped was Perez building up the suspense by having Clark frantically trying to find out how to track this thing before it causes real serious damage. While the fight really did work what didn't was Clark moping about Krypton. While it may make sense later on especially if these creatures he's facing turn out to be Krypt...

    Superman's New Adventures Continue 0

Superman's new comic book delivers another fascinating issue. I missed reading the first issue but I read the plotline in the Internet. Anyway, in this second issue, Superman fights a mysterious enemy he cannot see or hear. This is interesting and very attractive to new readers. Having an enemy that cannot be traced by Superman's vision or hearing powers is something that doesn't appear in comic books very often. It is only with the intervention of his friends that Superman defeats the creature....

    Invisible Threat 0

The Story: Superman faces a new threat that he can't see. My Thoughts:While Superman is and will remain one of my favorite characters, I wasn't exactly looking forward to this issue after the lackluster first issue. Perhaps it was my low expectations, but after finishing this issue, I was rather pleased. Things definitely picked up. It's still not what I imagined the series being but it's starting to gain my attention.  Once again we see a lot of Clark Kent/Lois Lane interaction. While they're n...

Solitude can be such a lonely place 0

The reason I've always loved Superman is how he soldiers on in the face of whatever challenges him. In the last issue we saw Superman not only take on an alien entirely made from fire, but we saw him witness the destruction of the old Daily Planet building which held great symbolic meaning to him, and we saw him loose the woman he loved to another man. Superman #2 just adds to the challenges that Superman faces. As we've seen from other comics in the New 52 the world doesn't seem to be taking to...

Modern and classic mixed to create a great issue 0

A first this tittle was somewhat average with its awesome little things (Like throwing the original daily globe sphere at a fire alien as a last goodbye to the iconic building everyone knows was just a great way to go). This tittle is growing on me quickly thanks to this epic tale which mixes the classic heroics with a modern feel into it (kinda what most superhero comics should be).The story goes with superman feeling doubtful since after a talk with general lane (who doesn't seem to want to ca...

    Superman Saves The Day 0

Superman #1 was an interesting a fun ride that gave us the new things to Metropolis and Superman himself. Superman #2 continues to do that but gives him even more trouble to fight.  THE GOOD: I really like the art. Jesus Merino does a great job at capturing emotion and fight scene. The story is also very simple but has a lot of deep elements the come into play. I really like seeing Lois and Clark talking to each other. Even though they aren't together I feel that they have a connection. I really...

    Cool - A Monster That's Totally Transparent in A Plot That's Not 0

In this issue Superman is again attacked by a strange creature that possesses nearly the kind of power he has... but this time it's a creature that he can't see. How will Superman defeat a foe he can't even see? He comes up with an interesting solution making it worth reading for the fight alone. But that's just the action part of the story - the bigger question is what's really going on? It's pretty clear that the monster in the last issue and the monster in this issue were pretty different in ...

I'm Not Stupid, I SEE What's Happening, You Don't Have to Tell Me 0

The Good: While its not a great cover, its still a better cover than the last issue. It doesn't turn me off as much.  The concept is extremely interesting. Superman is fighting an enemy that only he can't see? That's a really unique concept, and it's executed pretty excellently for the most part... The Bad: ...Except it's extremely confusing. How come normal humans can see it, but Superman can't even whne he simulates normal human sight? Why go to the ridiculous degree of effort to be invisible ...

Comic Review -- Superman #2: Flying Blind / George Perez & Jesus 0

Originally posted in my blog, The Comics Cove, not too long ago...I actually liked this cover quite a bit, and it’s not just the fact that Superman’s getting slammed into a building. It’s also the invisible monster doing the slamming, which you have to admit is pretty well done. There’s also not one intense color dominating most of the cover, and with it Superman’s new threads. A definite improvement over the last one. We’re still seeing a moody, broody Clark on the civilian side of this issue, w...
