Yes this IS a classic storyline that will go down in history. Deal with it.
Well, Dan Slott got his wish and made a whole bunch of you really angry. But let's take a look at the facts: all major comics characters have had a death and return to life story arc. The only difference here is the media is not making a big deal out of it, or Marvel is choosing not to trumpet it to the media, but either way. Superman: huge long saga where he 'dies' and comes back after somehow he's on the bottom of the ocean. Batman has had 2 major stories where he was out of commission: Knightfall where he was replaced with the hugely unpopular Azrael, and then later a story where he really 'died' except he didn't. Captain America also 'died' except somehow he didn't. So it's Spidey's turn now. It's going to be a rocky road, we should know that. This issue had my stomach in knots, as I had a strong suspicion how it would turn out, and indeed it did, and it made me feel ill. But I HAVE to know what comes next. And I think that this is true, classic comics writing, because it goes way beyond the current 'six issues and we wrap up the story for the TPB' style of writing. Instead we have agonizing, thrilling, edge-of-your-seat storytelling that keeps people coming back every issue. I know I'm more excited about picking up SSM every fortnight than I am for any other series I'm reading. We should know that Carlie Cooper, Mary Jane and the other heroes are going to eventually learn what is up here and battle to help Peter return in triumph. And I'm going to stick with this until he does.
