31 days after the last issue, and we find Spock at war! Goblin Nation Pt.1!
My review for, Superior Spider-Man #26. Spock finds himself in the midst of Goblin Nation asking himself, "How did it all happen?"
The Good
In this issue, we see a glimpse at what all will be happening in, Goblin Nation. This issue takes place 31 days after the last one; and Spock is trying to stop the Green Goblin and his army, but is handicapped solely because his eyes and ears (meaning the Spider-Bots), have been hacked by the Green Goblin. Writer Dan Slott had a slow build up in the beginning, but once Spock realized what all was happening to his tech, the story went off without a hitch!
The story, midway through this issue, was when things really got interesting! I really enjoyed seeing how Dan Slott is using the Green Goblin, and the Goblin Nation story arc, to bring back Peter Parker. In this issue, we got to see a glimpse of Parker's return process, and how ultimately, Spock is losing more-and-more of his city to the Green Goblin. This issue, and I would assume the story arc, will show that Spock is not good enough to be Spider-Man and that the original will need to return. So I like seeing what Slott is doing with Spock's character, and weaving the story to convey Spock's inability to protect the people of New York. And how the Green Goblin is exploiting the fact that Otto Octavius is in control of Spider-Man's body, and that Spock has no idea what he's getting into with facing off against him. So I'm interested in seeing how the conflict between the two characters will continue to change in the issues to come!
The Bad
The problem with this issue was, the beginning. Dan Slott took way longer than necessary to establish, "What all happened recently?", to basically get new readers acquainted with the story going on. That would've been great if issue 26 didn't exist, but issue 26 does exist, and issue 26 acted as the catchup for many readers. So Dan Slott should've focused more on the present, instead of the past, and treat every reader as if they've been following since last issue.
The Verdict
4 out of 5. Next review, Superior Spider-Man #28.
