The conclusion to the Superior Spider-Man vs. The Hobgoblin, for now!
My review for Superior Spider-Man #15. Hobgoblin's identity, Phil Urich, is public knowledge now; all it'll take is a good ol' fashioned New Yorker to turn him in, and the Superior Spider-Man to bask in his fame that he continues to make! But, how long will this fame last before it bites him in the butt?
The Good
In this issue, Hobgoblin (a.k.a. Phil Urich) faces off against the Superior Spider-Man one last time! You can tell with how this issue went down; that writer, Dan Slott, is building up to Superior Spider-Man's fall. Ock has all of Peter's memories, but none of the humility. Taking down the bad guy is one thing, but gloating about it, is another! And I really like how Slott is handling Spock's character, and his development. This issue centers all around Spock's cocky attitude, and how it'll eventually bite him in the butt with the oncoming [Green] Goblin War! Which is really cool to see, with how Dan Slott handles, not only Spock, but with teasing Green Goblin's plans!
I like seeing the reactions to how the Hobgoblin situation was handled. (From all the characters, especially Phil himself!) As you can see in the picture, you can tell Phil is pissed about being publicly made into a fool by the Superior Spider-Man; and how he has nothing to lose by joining the Green Goblin! (And his army!) Dan Slott handles this story element so well, because he makes Superior Spider-Man out to be the good guy, which is obvious. However, as Superior Spider-Man makes more headway by either killing, or locking up, his villains; it is only short term victories, as each victory he makes, the Green Goblin seems to turn it to his advantage. The level of care that Slott puts into the story with a plot point like this, is much appreciated. And I like how the reader, already knows, that it'll backfire on Spock, because we have a bigger picture of what is happening with ALL the characters, not just one. If Dan Slott decided to make it a big reveal for both Spock and the reader, I don't think the story would turn out so well. Because there would be more effort put into secrecy from the reader for future events; than focusing on each story that is happening in the present. So I'm glad that Dan Slott made that call with this half of the series!
The Bad
No complaints, another great issue!
The Verdict
The Superior Spider-Man is doing everything right, but nothing lasts forever! Phil Urich's identity as the Hobgoblin is over, he is now the Goblin Knight, a knight in the Green Goblin's army! What will happen when the Superior Spider-Man, finally, faces off against the Green Goblin's army? Next review, Superior Spider-Man #17
