Supergirl was first introduced in 1959 in Action Comics #252 as Superman's cousin from Krypton. She was one of the unlucky heroes that died during the 1985 mini-series, Crisis on Infinite Earths. Supergirl was killed saving Superman, but after the multiverse was erased, so was Supergirl. There was no history of Superman ever having a cousin, or about her sacrifice and death. The Supergirl mantle was passed around by different people from then on. Matrix was introduced 3 years after Crisis on Infinite Earths in 1988's Superman volume 2 #16, and Linda Danvers was introduced on 1996 in Supergirl #1. Linda remained as DC's Supergirl until 2004. For 16 years, Kara Zor-El would not make an appearance until the 2004 Superman / Batman #8, where she was finally reintroduced in the modern age as Kara Zor-El, Kal-El's cousin.
Silver Age Kara Zor-El
First appearance: Action Comics #252
Alias: Linda Lee / Linda Danvers
Occupation / Secret Identity: University student, Theatre / Drama studies.
Origin
When Krypton exploded a large chunk of the planet was hurled away from the planet, shielded from the explosion and space under a dome. There were several hundred survivors of Krypton, one of these was names Zor-El, Jor-El’s brother. Unfortunately due to the explosion that destroyed krypton, the large chunk of the planet they were living on was slowly turning into Kryptonite. With help from fellow scientists, Zor-El constructed sheets of lead to cover the ground until such time as they could evacuate the planet.
Several years passed while the survivors and descendants of Krypton lived in peace, life settled down for them. The survivors moved on with their lives, becoming scientists, explorers, but none actually left the city or its protective dome. Some years later Zor-El fell in love, he married and eventually had a child, Kara. When Kara was in her early teens disaster struck again. A meteor shower bombarded the survivors of krypton, destroying the dome and puncturing the lead shielding that was protecting them from Kryptonite poisoning.
Desperately Zor-El raced against time to construct a rocket in his lab, a rocket to send his only daughter to safety. While Zor-el worked on the rocket his wife started looking for a suitable planet to send young Kara to. Eventually they found a planet where there was a man with amazing powers, Superman. Using their Super-Space Telescope and Space Radio they learned about superman’s history and that he was a survivor of Krypton as well. Deciding they had found a safe place to send their daughter, Zor-El finished the rocket while his Wife made a copy of Superman’s suit out of their native ‘indestructible Super-Cloth’. Barely in time Kara was placed in the rocket and launched towards earth, her mother and father, her entire race now dead, aside from Kal-El, Superman. Arriving on Earth, Kara told her tale to Superman who explained to her that he was launched into space by his father too; Jor-El. Hearing the name Kara announced that her father was Zor-El, Jor-El’s brother. Superman announced them cousins and promised to take care of her like a big brother.
Kara immediately asked if she could come and live with him, a problem for superman as he had adapted a secret identity of earth, one Supergirl might jeopardize, even unintentionally. Testing her powers for the first time Superman and the newly christened Supergirl, The Girl of steel flew to a local town, Midvale, where they located a local orphanage. Superman then told her that she needed to practice before using her super-powers properly, for the meantime the orphanage would be her home. Kara adopted the secret identity of Linda Lee (Superman immediately picked up on the initials, musing if it was by sheer coincidence she picked the same initials as Lana Lang and Lois Lane), taking her into the orphanage office Superman explained a cover story to them about a ‘big disaster that wiped out her whole community’, the truth but changing the details slightly so the head-master would think that he meant a earthquake or tornado destroyed her home.
Agreeing to keep her presence on earth a secret for the time, Kara lived as an ordinary girl in the Midvale orphanage. When night fell Kara quickly changed into Supergirl, removing her brown wig and clothing. Remembering that she promised Superman that no one would ever see her until he decided it was time for her to come out of hiding she mused that by only flying at night no one would ever see her in the dark, so that way she wasn’t disobeying him.
At the end of the first issue, Kara is seen flying over Midvale doing a ‘Secret Patrol’ when she found a movie theatre showing ‘The History of Superboy in Smallville’. After watching the movie Kara wondered to herself “Will I do as good a job in Midvale, as Supergirl? What will the future bring for me?” During Supergirl’s first run she operated in secret, often using her powers to help others without them knowing about her. Such as creating a tunnel through the earth from Midvale to Italy to help a couple earn enough money so they could adopt one of her friends from the orphanage.
End of the Road...
During this run Kara changed her secret identity from Linda Lee to Linda Danvers; she also left the orphanage to go to Stanhope College where she studied Astrology. Kara’s first outing came to an end in Action Comics #376 when she fought alien invaders in the issue titled “The Hated Girl of Steel.” In this issue the world greatest scientists are kidnapped by aliens calling themselves ‘The Rancors’ and Supergirl is blamed for blinding a teacher at Stanhope University. Rescuing the scientists Supergirl cleared her name and returned to Stanhope.
This Supergirl continues off where the old one finished, there are no discernable changes to her history, during this run she becomes the guardian of the bottle city of Kandor. Even though this run only lasted for 10 issues it defined Supergirl as a character. While she didn’t have many opponents in the shape of super-villians and such, this run lent more towards establishing Supergirl as a more human character. Allowing her to have a love life and meet the rest of the Justice Society Of America.
During this run though, Supergirl suffered from many strange changes to her body, such as her hair turning into snakes that turned people to stone and her boyfriend at the time gaining temporary superpowers from a Brain-Cell transplant. She also met the amazons on Paradise Island and was christened an Amazon princess by Hyppolyta, she also fought alongside Zatana in several issue and the Justice Society.
Crisis on Infinite Earths
Crisis on Infinite Earths is one of the biggest events to happen in the DC Universe. It was the mark of the end of the Silver Ages of Comic Books. Also, the entire The DC Multiverse would be erased and merged into one Universe. When Superman was about to be killed, Kara would step in and sacrifice herself for her cousin. It would later be revealed that Supergirl was "warned" ahead of time about her death. Anyways, with the death of the multiverse, and most of the DC history was rewritten, Supergirl was one of those characters who were completely erased from history. No one knew about Supergirl's sacrifice and death.
Powers
Kara developed several powers over the years aside from her ‘normal’ ones. During the first issue she showed the power of Flight, Heat Vision, X-Ray vision and Super Strength, and invulnerability. In the following issues she also showed powers such as Super Breath, Super-Memory recall and the ability to vibrate herself across the time-barrier.
Uniform
Supergirl’s uniform during her first run was very simple, a one piece uniform consisting of a full sleeved top the same as Superman’s, a short blue shirt, red boots and a red cape. This was the outfit her mother made for her in her origin and it was kept faithfully through the entire run.
Supergirl’s uniform changed drastically for the next run, perhaps to show the passage of time between the first run and this one she was aged several years to be in her mid twenties. The uniform now consisted of red hot pants with a blue low cut blouse, the ‘S’ symbol was moved from her chest to above her left breast and she wore a red chocker necklace with red slipper type shoes.
Matrix
First appearance: Superman volume 2 #16 (April 1988)
Alias: Lana Lang, Mae, Matrix, Earth Born Angel of Fire
Origin
This version of Supergirl was introduced in Superman comic’s issue 21, September 1988. This Supergirl came from a pocket universe and was given her powers by Lex Luthor, in that universe Superboy vanished in a battle with a villain known as the ‘Time Trapper’, after his death Martha Kent and Jonathan Kent soon died, it was believed they died of a broken heart over losing their child. Lex Luthor met Lana Lang and Pete Ross at the Kent’s funeral’s and asked for their help in locating Superboy. Lex found and unwittingly opened a phantom zone generator, allowing three Kryptonion criminals to escape from their imprisonment, destroying Lex’s lab the three criminals flew off on a mission to subjugate this world as they had failed to do on krypton. Within a week Zod had declared himself King of the world, with Zaora as his queen and Quez-Ui as his enforcer, for three long years the battles raged between the humans of the three Kryptonion's.
Locating three people who thought as he did (Green Arrow, Batman and Hal Jordan), Lex began his experiments in genetic manipulation, three years later he met with success and granted Lana Super-Powers. Lana quickly adopted a variation of Superboy’s outfit as a rallying symbol for humanity, the battles waged on, with the death of Pete Ross, Bruce Wayne, Oliver Queen and Hal Jordan, Lana found herself the only one now capable of stopping the super criminals. Hatching a master plan, the three Kryptonion’s marched into battle. From three different points on the earth they used their powers t drill into the earth’s crust, boring holes right down to the molten core and letting millions of gallons of sea water in, it was instantly superheated by the earth’s core and blasted back out of the holes as red hot steam, boiling the seas instantly. The planet quickly fell to a dead husk after that, the atmosphere stripped away, the few survivors contained in a protective force field Lex had created around Smallville.
Lex soon came up with a plan to send Lana into Superman’s world to seek his assistance, bringing superman into this world they soon located the three super criminals, Lana and Superman took off to attack them, hoping to catch them off guard and subdue them. During the battle Zod attached Lana with a fierce burst of his heat vision, scarring her body and reverting her back into a proto plasma state (one of Lana’s powers was shape shifting). Superman raced to Superboy’s old lab and retrieved the last chunk of Gold Kryptonite there, using it to permanently remove Quex-Ul’s powers when he attacked. Attacking Zod and Zaora with the Gold Kryptonite, Superman imprisoned them in a makeshift prison cube and flew off to see if he could save any of the survivors; the only one he found was a mortally wounded Lex Luthor.
On his deathbed, Lex confessed that is hadn’t been Lana who was Supergirl; she was one of the first ones who had been killed. He used her DNA to create a pattern for Protomatter and created an artificial life form, he gave it Lana’s image in the hope that Superman had a similar relationship to her in his universe. With Lex dead, Superman believed himself to be the last living being on the planet, facing the three super criminals; Superman came to the hardest decision of his life. Fearing they would find a way to restore their powers and attack his universe, Superman had no choice but to act as judge, Jury and executioner for the crimes committed against an entire world. Exposing the depowered criminals to Green Kryptonite the three villains soon turned on each other with they’re dyeing breaths, Zod exclaimed that he was an innocent fool, a dupe of Quex-Ul and Zaora. Quex-Ul attacked Zod on hearing this and killed him, Zaora begged Superman to spare her life, promising him ‘to be his slave and show him pleasures...’, as their last breaths fell Superman shed a single tear for what he had done before leaving the prison turned tomb and wandering the wastelands of the planet.
During his exploration of the planet he found Supergirl in her proto plasma state, cradling her body he went back to the lab and activated the portal home, Taking the unconscious proto plasmic Supergirl with him. Taking the proto plasmic Supergirl back to the Kent farm he was met by his parents and Lana, he explained that she is all that remains of a whole universe. He asked Martha and Jonathan to look after her, to raise her as they raised him. If they did that she would be a good person one day. Several years passed and ‘Supergirl’ or ‘Matrix’ as she was now being called by Martha and Jonathan had learned to control her super powers and shape shifting ability. She now took the form of a mid twenties woman with long blonde hair. Despite warnings from Superman and her ‘parents’ Supergirl quickly established a relationship with Lex Luthor, believing him to be the same good man he was in her world. He used this trust to use her DNA to create an army of Supergirl’s for himself.
Supergirl found out about the ‘Cloning Lab’ and destroyed it and all the clones, feeling betrayed she ran to find the one person left on this world she felt a kinship with, Lana Lang. Explaining the details to Lana, Supergirl was overcome with grief and anger. Losing control of her anger and shape shifting ability she morphed into a ‘Berserker Supergirl’ with metal spikes adorning her uniform and armored wrist bracelets. She took off, promising vengeance on Lex Luthor, promising to “make him regret every minute of his miserable life!” Attacking the Luthor building Supergirl quickly dispatched the guards and found herself face to face with Lex Luthor himself, only this wasn’t the man she had known, he was withered and aged. It turns out that Lex was dying and that he was hoping to use her proto plasmic form to clone himself a new body, one with all the superpowers she had. Hearing that Le was dying Supergirl lost all interest in vengeance and flew away, vowing to never be tricked like that again. Talking to Superman, Lana and her ‘parents’ for one last time, Supergirl took off to see the world, hoping to do some good on the way round as she gained life experience and saw the planet she had devoted her life to saving.
Powers
Supergirl has numerous powers at her disposal; using psychokinesis, she could achieve flight, simulate super strength, control matter to rearrange the molecules in her clothing to any form, and concussive Psi-Blasts. Her synthetic protoplasm gave her shape shifting, and she could cloak herself in an energy field to become invisible even to Superman's senses. Although she could shield herself somewhat from harm, she wasn’t invulnerable like other versions of Supergirl as she wasn’t Kryptonion, but instead could use her shape shifting ability to heal herself from any injury in seconds.
It was never mentioned as to whether this form of Supergirl had a weakness for Kryptonite.
Uniform
The uniform worn by this Supergirl set the standard for most Supergirls to come. A one piece long sleeved leotard with the ‘S’ emblazoned on the chest, a red skirt and red boots with a red cape, the ‘S’ shield again emblazoned on the back of the cape in yellow.
Linda Danvers
First Apperance: Supergirl #1 (1996)
Origin
Linda Danvers is an ordinary human girl, the daughter of policeman Fred and Sylvia Danvers. Linda's boyfriend, Buzz, was involved in many illegal activities and cults. One day Buzz convinced Linda to join him in his questionable activities, which she does. However, Buzz had intended to sacrifice Linda for his demonic cult. He slashes Linda with a dagger, opening a wound and pouring out blood in order to unleash a demon. Fortunately for Linda, Matrix arrived to save her. She defeated the cult and attempted to save Linda by using her shape shifting ability to close to wound. However, an unexpected twist happens; Linda and Matrix ended up fusing together. Linda and Matrix were now one Supergirl, having the ability to change from a petite brunette, into a tall, athletically built blonde. She eventually alerted Superman about the situation, fearing that he would not accept her, but Superman does. Since Linda had physically died and been reborn, the newly combined being becomes the "Earth Born Angel of Fire."
As the Earth Born Angel, her abilities are altered; in addition to retaining super-strength and invulnerability, the power to teleport, "flame vision", and she gained fiery wings. Her shapeshifting is now limited only to switching between Linda and Supergirl. As the Earth Born Angel, she now finds herself battling demonic and supernatural monsters. She also met a boy named Wally, who claimed to be "God." He helped her to get used to her newly transformed self. One notable battle was when Twilight decided to battle her to exact revenge on God by destroying his creation. One day, Linda was kidnapped by a vampire named Carnivore, whom Linda would defeat with the help of a mysterious figure. However, upon defeating Carnivore, Matrix was ripped out of Linda, thus she was alone again.
No longer merged with Matrix, she did not have her Angel of Fire powers anymore, but she retained half her super strength, invulnerability, and could no longer fly but leap one-eighth of a mile. With Matrix gone, she decided to create a new costume. She went to a costume shop and bought items to create a white top, blue skirt, and red cape costume to continue her role as Supergirl. Although Supergirl only retained half her powers, she was still strong enough to hold her own against Bizzaro, and even a Supergirl version of Bizzaro. Linda then decided to go search for Matrix, who she believed was kidnapped. With the help of her ex-boyfriend, Buzz, and Mary Marvel, the three of them set out to search for Matrix. Linda would also team up with Twilight, who discovered that the Demon Queen, Lilith was holding Matrix hostage, along with Twilight's sister. They would eventually confront Lilith, who fatally wounds Linda, Mary Marvel, and Twilight. Luckily, Matrix escaped from her prison and joined the battle. Linda tells Matrix to merge with Twilight to become the new Angel of Fire. After she merged with Twilight, she healed Linda and Mary Marvel. Matrix also gave Linda her full Supergirl powers back, enabling her to fly once again.
Continuing as Supergirl, Linda would discover a Kyrptonian rocket ship with the young Kara Zor-El inside. The two would become good friends, as Linda taught Kara how to be a hero. However, it would eventually be revealed that Kara was in the wrong timeline, and that it was a prank caused by a cosmic entity called, Fatalist, to annoy his master Xenon. He altered the timeline for fun and caused the pre-Crisis Kara to arrive in this time. The Spectre appeared and told Linda of her death in the Crisis on Infinite Earths. Linda decided to take the place of Kara without anyone knowing and was sent to the pre-Crisis era. Eventually, the pre-Crisis Superman would uncover the truth, and reveals that he has feelings for Linda. The two of them got married and had a daughter named Ariella. With Linda in the wrong time, it altered the past greatly, and Spectre would eventually send her back to her own time. There, she saved Kara from Xenon and Kara was sent back to her own time afterwards. However, Linda forced the Spectre to spare her daughter Ariella from being erased, or else "she would let the universe die." Linda would later find out that her parents had a second child named Wally. Soon afterwards, Linda hung up her cape and wrote a note to Clark and Lois, stating that she is no longer worthy of the "S." Linda disappeared and has yet to be revealed where she has gone.
Ariella Kent
First Apperance: Supergirl #1,000,000
Alias:
Ariella Kent
R ‘E ‘L
The Destroyer of Worlds
The Demolisher of Systems
Age: 6
Origin
During issue 80 of Supergirl (Linda Danvers), Supergirl went back in time to a ‘pre crisis’ Earth, where she met and fell in love with that era’s Superman. During that time she bore Superman a daughter, Ariella. When The Spectre came to take her back to her original time Linda made the ultimate sacrifice, leaving her Daughter and the man she loved so that Kara could come back to her time, even knowing that she would die in The Crisis on Infinite Earths.
Linda bargained with The Spectre, agreeing only to go back to her original time if her daughter, Ariella, would be spared. Agreeing, The Spectre wiped all traces of Linda Danvers from history, altering Superman’s memories of her so that he never remembered meeting her, let alone having a child with her. Arialla has been seen several times in current continuity, she appeared in the DC 1,000,000 storyline as that era’s Supergirl where she was seen destroying invading alien armadas, albeit by accident, and had apparently ‘adopted’ a new father figure. Most significantly though, she was last seen with Klarion The Witch Boy, who seemed to have developed a crush on Ariella, though she was still only 6.
Though Ariella is only six years old, it is wise not to judge her by age or size, she has shown signs of powers that surpass Superman and all previous Supergirls. Though she has not had a large amount in time in the current continuity, it is assumed that she is still searching for her mother and father, if she remembers them at all. When Linda Danvers left earth she may have been searching for her daughter, though this has yet to be said in the comics. Ariella’s whereabouts are currently unknown, her ability to travel through time at will, and immunity to changes in the timeline make her a very dangerous individual; more than likely we will see her again sometime, until then she seems quite happy to explore space and time with her new friend Klarion The Witch Boy.

Modern Age Kara Zor-El
First Appearance: Superman / Batman #8 (2004)
Alias: Kara Zor-El
Origin
In 2004, Kara Zor-El was reintroduced into DC continuity in the Superman/Batman series. Like the pre-Crisis version, this Kara claims to be the daughter of Superman's uncle Zor-El and his wife Alura. The post-Crisis Kara is actually older than Superman; she was a teenager when he was a baby. When Krypton exploded, she was sent in a rocket (in suspended animation) to find and look after Superman. However, her rocket got caught in a huge chunk of the planet and she arrived on Earth years after her cousin did. Meanwhile, she was put in suspended animation, so while chronologically born before Kal-El, she is still the age of a teenager. Her arrival is discovered by Batman, who initially doubted that she was really Kryptonian, thinking that it was too much of a coincidence. Not to mention he couldn't understand a thing that she said because she only spoke in Kryptonion. Kara is scared being on a unfamiliar world, and unable to understand English, not knowing about the powers she gets from bing on earth does some damage. Discovered by her cousin she spends a long time at the Fortress of Solitude catching up on all the time she has mist and learning about earth and its past. She is astonishingly able to learn all of earths languages in just three months. She become restless and pleads to go out into the world, and Superman finally allows her to as long as she stays under his supervision (no pun intended). He takes her to the Kent Farm were she spends a short time learning to control and hide her powers to appear more human. The Amazons learn of her existence and Wonder Women comes to take Kara back to their island to be properly trained in combat by Wonder Woman and Artemis. Superman is reluctant to let her go, but grudgingly concedes, seeing it would benefit her and she would be safe. Unfortunately she doesn't stay safe. She is captured byDarkseid, and after being brainwashed, attacked her own cousin.
Superman defeats her and returns her to Earth, where he fakes her death so Darkseid will not come looking for her. She then assumes the role of Supergirl. But she feels out of place, not sure where she really belongs. Kara is unable to associate closely with Power Girl because their powers go out of control when they touch each other. Kara has also been feeling out of place because she does not know where she should belong. Because of this she finds most solace with the Amazons on Themyscira. She finds kindred spirits in her other "cousin" Superboy, Wonder Girl, and Starfire.
Her self-discovery is interrupted when Lex Luthor uses a black kryptonite to split her into a good Kara and an evil Kara. The evil Kara states that she was sent to Earth by Zor-El for the sole purpose of killing the infant Kal-El. Zor-El had devised a special crystal that would influence her personality as she travelled to Earth, making her "innocent", thus creating the good side of Kara's personality. However, the good side became dominant. At the climax of the struggle between the two Karas and the Justice League, the good Kara urges Wonder Woman to use her golden lasso of truth to bind the two together and ask: "Who is Kara Zor-El?" The two Karas fuse back into a single good Kara, who decides her past is not important and acknowledges Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman as her foster parents.
Infinite Crisis
During the Infinite Crisis, Supergirl joins the heroes that Donna Troy has recruited to operate in deep space during the crisis. However, Kara's return from deep space is disrupted by the zeta-beam malfunction which hits Donna's space team. While some incur grievous physical injuries and deformities (Adam Strange loses his eyes; Hawkgirl grows to enormous size), Supergirl simply disappeared. It was revealed that prior to the crisis, it was because of Superman Prime's reality-altering ripple effect, which brought Kara Zor-El back to existence.
Kara finds herself in the 31st century and she eventually thought that the 31st century was a dream she had created. Saturn Girl scans her mind to find out what has happened to her and sees glimpse of the zeta-beam. The Legion hypothesized that due to her suspended animation and all the trauma she has gone through that she has made herself believe that the 31st century is a dream.
Another complicated matter is that whenever Kara wants something, she automatically gets it. For example, she could not be an official member of the Legion of Superheroes but when she said she wanted a flight ring, Brainiac 5 sends a ring to her.
Her supposed dream world was shattered and in shambles when the very same Brainiac, concerned about the effects of a superpowered being like her slipping in madness, exposed her to green Kryptonite, sedated her and left in care of Kandorian scientists in the enlarged Rokin / New Krypton Kandor City to be "re-educated" on the uses of the last Kryptonians (with even language changed in a thousand years, Kara couldn't even be an effective member of Rokin society, thus making her an outcast again), and her "romance" with Cosmic Boy was dismissed as the side-effect of the residual zeta-beam radiaton affecting the young boy's body chemistry.
One Year Later
One Year after Infinite Crisis, Supergirl returns to the 21st century, and assumes the identity of Flamebird to fight crime in Kandor with Power Girl as Nightwing. They opposed a religious cult based around warped versions of Superman's earlier appearances in Kandor. Kara also believes the key to Argo City, her home town, lies somewhere in the city. Kara and Power Girl find themselves battling the Saturn Queen and Ultraman (posing as Superman), villains who have established themselves in Kandor. At the climax of the struggle, Supergirl unexpectedly leaves (with her comrade in tow).
Since she did not consult with Power Girl about the timing of their exit, the two part on somewhat strained terms. Kara re-establishes herself on Earth, attaining financial independence after selling an item of Kryptonian technology that would completely "heal" anybody who uses it to Batman for his own personal use, at the price of one million dollars. With this money Kara has purchased her own apartment. Back on Earth, Kara visits the Kents to mourn the lost of Conner with them. There, Kara decided to take one of Conner's "S" black shirt. She would later give the shirt to Cassie, who was still mourning for Conner. Cassie and Kara begins to develop a close friendship. Kara also befriended Captain Boomerang, who obviously wants to date Kara, but she only thinks of him as a brother. Kara was also tired of the "hero" thing and living in Superman's shadow, she tries to begin a normal life. She enrolls in a high school under the alias Claire Conners. Kara used a wig and glasses to hide her identity and attempts to make friends. However, she was considered an outsider and girls would eventually play pranks on her. Kara would drop out after a week when some girls humiliated her in front of a crowd.
With the help of Captain Boomerang, he got the Outsiders to let Supergirl try out for the team. On their first mission, the Outsiders got irritated at her for using lethal force on the criminals. Eventually Kara would also get irritated and decided not to join the Outsiders. She later began dating Power Boy, and also begun having nightmares about her father doing some kind of experiment on her. When Supergirl fought against Batgirl, after being cut and stabbed by a run sun sword, something her father did healed all her wounds. Kara later accompanied Green Lantern Hal Jordan on a mission to another planet. During the mission, Kara flirts with Hal multiple times, forcing him to remind himself that she is only 17 years old.
Back on Earth, Kara begins spending more time with Power Boy. However, when Kara decided to blow off one of their dates to visit Owen Mercer at the hospital, it irritated Power Boy. After she begins to leave, Power Boy stops her and forces her into a fight. Power Boy reveals he has a huge obsession with Supergirl. The two fight and eventually, Supergirl knocks him out. Later, Kara begins having more visions of her father. Eventually, her father would reveal that the Phantom Zone had possessing demons that escapes when it is used. Zor-El also discovered a way to destroy it by implanting a sunstone in it. He implanted one in Kara to make her immune to them. Zor-El then shows her that they were sentenced to exile in the Phantom Zone by the Kryptonian Council. Kara then sees a memory when her Kryptonian classmates were possessed and attacking them at their home. Shortly after, Krypton's destruction occurred. Kara then wakes up and flies back to Earth to discover the Phantom demons possessing people. Kara was attacked by Wonder Girl who forced her to reveal her dark secrets and released her when she was disgusted with her. She soon goes to the Batcave in an attempt to get help from Batman, but found him possessed and he had sealed himself in the cave. She is soon confronted by Robin who forces her to stab him with a sunstone, but instead of killing him it released the Phantom from his body. Robin had been keeping track of Superman who has been using a batsuit that Batman gave him since the sun became red and he lost his powers. With Robin's help she was able to locate Superman and found that Phantoms were coming from his body. Kara admits everything to her cousin, however Clark was driven mad by the Phantoms and he wanted Kara to kill him and save Earth. However the pre-crisis Supergirl showed up taunting her and calling her imperfect and inadequate. However it was revealed that everything that had happened including Batgirl's attack was all an illusion created by Dark Angel who was acting as the pre-crisis Supergirl. Dark Angel had become obsessed with the idea that Supergirl was a threat to the Multiverse. However a Monitor appears informing Kara that she is this universes Supergirl and he was sorry for all that Dark Angel had done. Supergirl is left in deep space where she meets Pariah who tells her about a "Great Disaster" that will be caused by her and she goes to Earth to patch up all the mistakes she made on Earth recently.
Amazons Attack
All the women who had any connection to the Amazons were being contained in internment camps. Wonder Girl and Supergirl attack the camp in an attempt to free their friends and family, but Robin informs that it would be better to use negotiation. The two then travel to talk to Queen Hippolyta. Hippolyta tells them that they need to bring the President to her to talk. The girls block Air Force One's path and convinced the President to go with the, but the plane is brought down by two Amazons. The two relize thier foolishness and are helped by Superman who helps them with the Amazons.
Teen Titans
After the Amazons retreat,Supergirl is given membership into the Teen Titans. She battles against a clone of Superman(Who at that time, was a clone of Kon-El/Conner Kent/Superboy)from the Titans Tomorrow storyline.
Powers
The modern age Kara Zor-El's power is extremely powerful. Many others, including Kara, believe that she is stronger then Superman himself. However, Superman explained that he holds back his powers so he does not hurt people, while Kara has no experience and does not care about the collateral damages as much. While Kara was in suspended animation, her rocket ship had a yellow sun inside, which she was exposed to throughout her journey to Earth. Also, her father Zor-El had implanted Kryptonian Sunstones in her. The sunstones would activate when she is not exposed to yellow sunlight, and it would feed her yellow sunlight. This means she would still retain her powers under red sunlight. Kara was also trained by the Amazons and is now a well trained fighter.

Supergirl in Cartoons
Superman: The Animated Series (1996)
Supergirl first appeared in the DC Animated Universe's Superman: The Animated Series in the season 2 two-part episode entitled "Little Lost Girl." This incarnation of Supergirl was not Superman's cousin, and not even Kryptonian. She was from Krypton's sister planet "Argo," which was destroyed after Krypton exploded. Kara In-Ze was a teenage girl who was put in suspended animation with her parents just before Argo was destroyed, in hopes that they would survive. Superman was searching around Krypton, looking to find anything from his home planet. There, he finds a heat signature at a nearby planet, which was Argo. Superman would find Kara, the only survivor in suspended animation. Due to Argo becoming a cold wasteland, Kara developed cheimatophobia, which is the fear of cold. Superman takes Kara back to Earth and arranges her to live with the Kents while she adjusts to Earth life. Kara quickly develops her ability to fly, and eventually the rest of Superman's powers. Kara would visit Clark in Metropolis while wearing glasses and a brunette wig (a homage to the Silver Age Kara). Kara also made a costume similar to the one Linda Danvers wore, white top, blue skirt, and red cape. While in Metropolis, Kara would decide to help Jimmy Olsen investigate Intergang. The two would get into deep trouble when they discover Granny Goodness from Apokolips to be in cahoots with Intergang. Kara would change into Supergirl and battle against the Female Furies, Stompa, Mad Harriet, and Lashina. Superman would eventually arrive to help Supergirl, however the Female Furies were able to knock Superman unconscious and took him back to Apokalips. Supergirl would follow them to Apokalips and free Superman from Darkseid. They returned to Earth to stop two comets that Darkseid planned to hit Earth. Superman pushed one comet away and Supergirl injured herself destroying one that was too close to Metropolis. She eventually recovers.
Batman: The Animated Series (1992)
Supergirl appeared in one episode in the New Batman Adventures (also known as Batman the animated series season 4) in the episode "Girl's Night Out." Kara was at Clark's apartment in Metropolis while he was out of town. Batman calls Clark's apartment, Kara picks up the phone and he tells her to tell Clark that Livewire is in Gotham City. Kara decides to go after Livewire herself. When she arrives in Gotham City, she saves Oracle (Batman was out of town) from Livewire when she short circuited the Batmobile. Kara and Barbara would become good friends, and later try to apprehend Livewire. However, Livewire teamed up with Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy. The three of them were able to beat Supergirl and Batgirl, and escaped quickly afterwards. Later, Supergirl and Batgirl would fight Livewire, Ivy, and Quinn at Ivy's place. They eventually defeat the three of them and sent them to jail.
Justice League Unlimited
Supergirl was one of the elected heroes who were invited to the Initiation of the Justice League Unlimited. She wore the Linda Danvers costume and went on a few missions with the Justice League. On one mission, Supergirl, the Question, and Green Arrow helped investigate her recurring dreams. They discovered that Cadmus had created a clone of Supergirl while she was recovering at S.T.A.R. Labs after her battle against Darkseid in the Superman Animated Series. The clone was named Galatea and was designed after Power Girl (Short blonde hair, white tights, with a hole in the middle of her clevage). Galatea was created to fight the Justice League if they went rogue. However, she also began killing people and since she was a clone of Supergirl, Supergirl could see all the killings happening. Supergirl would battle against her and ebat her badly the first time. Professor Hamilton would take her back to the lab for her to recover, while also making upgrades. Amanda Waller would order Galatea to lead an army to fight the Justice League. Supergirl would battle Galatea again and defeated her when she pushed her into an electrical cable in the Justice League Watchtower. Green Arrow also begins developing somewhat of a father / daughter relationship with Supergirl, and talks to Superman about her well being many times. He also told Superman that he and Black Canary were going to take her out for her birthday.
In the second season of Justice League Unlimited, Supergirl changes her outfit to the modern age blue top, red skirt and cape. Green Arrow and Superman were talking about how she wanted her costume to look more like Superman's. In the episode entitled "Far From Home," Supergirl, Green Lantern (John Stewart), and Green Arrow were brought to the 31st century where they met the Legion Of Super-Heroes. They asked the three of them to help them defeat the Fatal Five, and just before the mission, Braniac 5 reveals to Green Lantern and Green Arrow that Supergirl never returned from this mission. Supergirl would learn of her fate and decide to go through with it anyways. She was injured badly during the fight, but did not die. Kara began developing a relationship with Braniac 5, she reveals that the reason she never returned from the mission is probably because she wants to stay there. Kara stays in the 31st century while Green Lantern and Green Arrow went home. Green Arrow told the news to Superman, who was sad but happy that she found a place to fit in.
