    Super Girl #8 Review

    Super Girl #8 Review

    Overview:

During immediate aftermath of Supergirl’s fight with the World Killers Kara makes a new friend

    The Good:

The whole issue was enjoyable. It was cool to see Kara talk to someone from Earth in Kryptonian and have Siobhan talk to others. One thing that I really enjoy about this series is how Supergirl’s powers are not a carbon copy of Superman’s and her distinctly different attitude. The writing in the sense of plot progression was good, and the story was fun. The art was different, it was done by guest artist George Perez and while it is good I really miss Mahmud Asrar’s art. The addition of Siobhan Smythe, aka the Silver Banshee, welcome one; it will be interesting to see Supergirl team up with someone because up to this point she has been pretty much entirely solo. Siobhan also has some really neat powers.

    The Bad:

I don’t know much about the Silver Banshee but I always thought she was a villain but if she is Supergirl’s ally in the New 52, that would be pretty cool. Even in an anti-hero or reluctant ally role but if Supergirl’s first friend becomes a straight up enemy, that would be annoying (and predictable).

Most of Siobhan’s dialogue was a little hard to read. She is an Irish immigrant and has a thick accent. I have never been to Ireland nor do I know anyone from Ireland but the way she spoke seemed off, I don’t really know what it was but it was odd. She also said “ye” like it was going out of style; that was kind of funny.

Another thing that bothered me was that this seemed slow, I realize that the series is taking it’s time but I would not be opposed to it going faster.

    Verdict:

This was a good “aftermath” issue that was also fun, watching Supergirl’s development is fun. Nothing is majorly broken but some things are annoying but I suppose after a big exciting fight last issue, if things seem slow, it is just because of that.

4 out of 5 (it is more like a 3.75 or so)

Synopsis: So now that the threat of the World Killers have been prevented (for now), what's Kara to do now?I still refuse to call Kara Supergirl yet, despite what others may claim in this issue. Why? Because Kara is still discovering herself. She hasn't had a moment of rest since the beginning of this series, and she's starting to get worn out. Although Kara saved the people of New York from the World Killers, she's still considered to be a threat and without her cousin around, who can she turn ...

      Trying to be 0

After a pretty much non-stop series of issues based around mostly action, finally the reader gets to have a bit of a breather here and find out about the new Kara, even if it is only half an issue or so.  After defeating the worldkillers, Supergirl is still very much confused about where she is and what to do next.  During a standoff with the police another young woman unexpectedly intervenes and gets Kara out of the situation.  In so doing Kara make her first friend on Earth, and one that is wi...
