Superboy #4
Art - The lines are average and the colors follow the lines, but are clearly above average. A few of the panels are off due to the lines, like when Superboy and Caitline are looking at each other Caitline has a smile on her face even though she shouldn't.
Story - As pointed out in the story this is Superboy's Rum Springa where in he is freed to do whatever he wants, meets some villains, and decides to be Amish...err part of NOWHERE. It feels a little rushed in my opinion, but most people likely not have wanted this to go on for too long. I think they could have gotten a 2nd issue before him going back to NOWHERE where after the villain dust-up he says I haven't decided yet and then flies over to Metropolis and meets Superman or perhaps even Supergirl and then after that decides to go back, but there are problems with that that I'm sure Lobdell didn't want to have to deal with.
Characterization - As it is I don't much like Superboy. I feel that his lashing out, physically harming people, doesn't fit his character, but this is largely about self-exploration and while it does establish his character rather solidly in areas where it holds I think that there are areas it doesn't hold (like that lashing out) and how quickly he turns around and condemns the 2 villains. Because this is the main focus of the book and it only just barely manages to scrape by with doing so I have to say that this is good, but still needs work.
Recommendation - Buy it... or at the very least read it in the store. It's an important issue for the character development of Superboy.
