silverzeo's Superboy #3 - The New Adventures of Psionic Lad, Part One review

The Kid has gone a long way

Like I said before, Superboy got me into comics, and I am happy that he got a solo book again, as we see him grow as a person rather than a team-member since the ending of Infinite Crisis.

I like this issue because mostly everything before this issue, including his chapter during the re-launch of "Adventure Comics", was build up. Here, we actually see Superboy growing up since being a egoistical teen fresh from the cloning-tube. Here, we see him actually going the extra mile of helping people then just lamenting how he hasn't done enough with planing a charity race with Bart (almost like the DC Animated Universe comic they had WAY back in the 90s). He seems to be more aware of his actions and resopniablites that come with being a Smallville resident (as well as wearing the "S") He has taken precautions, such as limiting his friendship with Simon... the problem is that he his plan as Simon being "Superboy's" friend and not "Conner Kent"'s, which is dumb considering that that  Superboy has experiance people dying being realted to his superhero-persona though they happen in his last book and DC seems to ignore large portion of his book history so far, but still, it happen to Jimmy Oslen and Lois Lane; which in turn, he is basically making Simon be in harm's way just to cover his secret identity at school....

Another expect about this book is that is introducing new elements into the book to make it stand out, as I am sure that
Psionic-Lad seems like a new character with no prior-history, and they do set up an interesting mystery set-up with how Lori seems to immune to the "time-travel headache" that effected everyone in town...   (ironically, thought-ballons seem to have return before "Thought Ballon Boy" came into town)

I am also wondering how Simon's role in this going to role, like he might make his own Superhero persona and go down the path of Syndrome from the "Incredibles" as Tellus told Simon how he has "betrayed" Conner, but I still have hopes that was a misnote in history.

Overall, it great to see the Kid doing something new again, with a fresh cast that are ready to grow to make their own mark in DC history, though I do wish they would at least acknowledge more of Superboy's adventures and friends he made from his last book instead of being in limbo, in which it is not trashed or being used...

The aftermath of last issues battle is dealt with just in time for Superboy to face a new threat at school (no, not a pop quiz).  The Good Jeff Lemire has been giving us a more down-to-Earth Superboy. I'll admit I didn't enjoy the last issue as much as the first but this one got my excitement up once again. While I wasn't crazy about the way this week's issue of Steel jump around, I loved how page one began in the present and then went back to the events in the morning. That first page reminded ...

What I like about Jeff Lemire's Superboy is that he is mixing his Canadian farm upbringing into the comic.  There is a sense of himself in every issue.  Childhood match ups Jeff envisioned must be some of the things he is trying to do on Superboy, such as a race between Superboy and a certain someone... which is like a nod to the classic matches Clark has faced off with.  Another thing I love about Superboy, is that Jeff Lemire is getting away with so much more nods to Canada in this series then...
